What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Prostate Advantage against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Prostate Advantage contains 2 active ingredients: pumpkin seed oil and saw palmetto extract. Pumpkin seed oil is thought to support urinary and prostate health through compounds in the seed.
Saw palmetto extract, derived from the berries of a small palm tree, has been traditionally used for prostate and urinary tract concerns. The product also includes several inactive ingredients—sunflower oil, gelatin, glycerin, purified water, caramel color, and carob color—which serve as the capsule base and allow you to swallow the supplement.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
For benign prostatic hyperplasia (enlarged prostate), pumpkin seed oil is rated Possibly Effective based on available evidence, while saw palmetto is rated Possibly Ineffective despite common use for this condition. Saw palmetto is rated Possibly Effective for a specific procedure outcome (TURP) but evidence for urinary symptoms and other uses remains insufficient or not well established.
Neither ingredient has reliable evidence for hair loss, urinary tract infections, or other conditions in our data.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Both ingredients are generally well tolerated by most adults at recommended doses. The most common side effects from pumpkin seed oil are mild—abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting—though anaphylaxis (severe allergic reaction) has been reported rarely.
Saw palmetto's common side effects include abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, headache, fatigue, and nausea; rare reports include fixed drug eruption (blistering skin lesions), heart rhythm changes, and blood pressure effects. Bitter or wild pumpkins with high cucurbitacin levels have caused severe nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and hair loss in case reports, though these are uncommon.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Saw palmetto is rated Likely Unsafe during pregnancy because of possible effects on hormones and lack of safety data, and should be avoided while breastfeeding. Pumpkin as a food is fine, but safety data for concentrated seed-oil supplements during pregnancy and breastfeeding is insufficient—talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use if you are pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you use blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin or clopidogrel)—saw palmetto may increase bleeding risk. Also double-check if you take estrogen therapy or birth control pills, as saw palmetto might reduce their effectiveness.
If you take lithium for mood disorders, your dose may need adjustment because pumpkin seed oil could raise lithium levels.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Prostate Advantage may be worth considering if you have benign prostatic hyperplasia and want to try pumpkin seed oil, though saw palmetto's effectiveness for this condition is unclear. If you take blood thinners, birth control pills, estrogen therapy, or lithium, you must check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product—these interactions could affect how your medications work.
Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should not use it without speaking to their healthcare provider first.
