Here's the basic concern when you pair these two. Pentoxifylline already thins your blood a bit, helping it slip more easily through narrow vessels in your hands and feet. Saw palmetto has been reported to lengthen bleeding time, so stacking it on top could, in theory, nudge your bleeding risk a little higher. That might show up as easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop.

I want to be honest about the evidence here. This warning rests on anecdotal reports and theory, not solid studies, so for most people it's likely a small concern. Still, since both touch blood flow, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them, and let them know right away if you notice unusual bleeding or bruising.

What Is Pentoxifylline Used For?

Pentoxifylline Extended-Release Tablets are used to treat intermittent claudication — leg pain, cramping, or fatigue that happens during walking because narrowed arteries aren't delivering enough blood to the muscles. The underlying cause is chronic occlusive arterial disease, a condition where the arteries in the limbs become blocked or narrowed over time.

Pentoxifylline can help improve walking distance and reduce symptoms, but it is not a substitute for procedures that physically open or bypass blocked arteries when those treatments are needed.
