Piracetam + Pentoxifylline
Pentoxifylline brand name: Trental.
Piracetam has a major interaction with Pentoxifylline. Theoretically, concomitant use of piracetam and anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding.

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Pentoxifylline
Pentoxifylline falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Piracetam interacts with.
Preliminary clinical research shows that a single dose of piracetam inhibits platelet aggregation.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing to know about pairing piracetam with pentoxifylline (Trental). Pentoxifylline already works by thinning your blood and helping it slip more easily through small vessels, and it has a mild effect of making platelets less sticky. Piracetam appears to do something similar, since early research shows even a single dose can reduce platelet clumping. Stack the two together and you may nudge that blood-thinning effect a bit further than intended.
In real life, that could show up as easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop. This is largely a theoretical concern based on limited data, so don't panic, but please check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them, especially if you also take aspirin or other blood thinners.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Pentoxifylline page
“Pentoxifylline (Trental) improves blood flow in people with poor leg circulation partly by making platelets less sticky, so treat this list as one to read carefully rather than skim. Of the 218 supplements on file, 202 can also slow clotting, which means adding them stacks bleeding risk on bleeding risk.”

About Piracetam
What is Piracetam?
- Memory and cognition ('nootropic')
- Cognitive decline and dementia
- Myoclonus
- Dyslexia in children
- Vertigo
Piracetam is a synthetic 'nootropic' drug studied mainly for cognitive decline, myoclonus, and certain neurological conditions, but evidence for boosting memory in healthy people is weak. It is a prescription medicine in many countries and is not an approved drug or dietary supplement in the United States, so quality and safety of products sold online vary. Talk to a doctor or pharmacist before using it.
About Pentoxifylline
What Is Pentoxifylline Used For?
Brand name: Trental
Pentoxifylline extended-release tablets treat intermittent claudication. This is cramping leg pain during walking that comes from chronic occlusive arterial disease (long-term blockage of arteries) in the limbs.
It can improve function and symptoms. It is not meant to replace more definitive treatment, such as surgical bypass or removal of arterial blockages, in peripheral vascular disease.
