Here's the thing to know about pairing piracetam with ticlopidine. Ticlopidine already does one main job, it stops your platelets from clumping together so they can't form clots. Some early research suggests piracetam may also nudge platelets in that same direction on its own. So you're not dealing with a liver enzyme issue here, you've got two things that both thin the blood working at the same time.

Stacked together, that could tip you toward easier bleeding, things like nosebleeds, bruising more than usual, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop. This is rated a major interaction, but the piracetam side is still based on limited evidence. Please don't change anything on your own. Check with your doctor or pharmacist first.

What Is Ticlopidine Used For?

Brand names: Ticlid, Ticlopidine

  • Ticlopidine is used to reduce the risk of stroke in people who have had a stroke or have had warning signs of a stroke and who cannot be treated with aspirin. Ticlopidine is also used along with aspirin to prevent blood clots from forming in coronary stents (metal tubes surgically placed in clogged blood vessels to improve blood flow). It works by preventing platelets (a type of blood cell) from collecting and forming clots.
