Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Pure CLA 1500 is a 6-ingredient softgel built around conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), a type of fat found naturally in meat and dairy. The product also contains oleic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, and safflower oil — all fatty acids.
The inactive ingredients are bovine gelatin (the capsule), glycerin, purified water, and caramel color.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
The data we hold shows oleic acid is possibly effective for high cholesterol and coronary heart disease. We don't have effectiveness ratings for the other active ingredients in this product, so I can't tell you whether the CLA itself or the other components have established benefits.
How safe is it?
Some data gaps
Oleic acid from foods — like olive oil — is generally recognized as safe in normal amounts. At supplement-level doses, though, safety data in pregnancy and breastfeeding isn't well established, so there isn't enough information to know either way.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding and want to use this product. No adverse effects are documented in our data.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
If you take antidiabetes drugs (like metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin), check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product. Oleic acid may increase how well these medications work, which could lower your blood sugar more than intended.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with some supporting evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and some safety-information gaps remain.
Pure CLA 1500 may be worth considering if you're looking for fatty acid support for heart health or cholesterol, but if you take blood sugar medication, you'll need to check with your doctor or pharmacist first — oleic acid can strengthen those drugs' effects. Pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety data, so get personalized advice from your own healthcare provider before you start.

General Statements
CLA was discovered by accident in 1978 by Michael W. Pariza at the University of Wisconsin while looking for mutagen formations in meat during cooking. While small amounts can be obtained through your diet, supplementation may have a substantial impact on how effectively our body chemically decomposes and deposits fat in our cells. Some of the more recent research has shown that use of CLA has proven to be extremely effective in reducing body fat and increasing lean muscle mass.

Oleic Acid
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, oleic acid might increase the effects of antidiabetes drugs. Preliminary clinical research in patients with type 2 diabetes taking oral hypoglycemic drugs shows that eating a diet rich in oleic acid from olive oil decreases fasting blood glucose levels when compared to eating a diet rich in linoleic acid from sunflower oil. It is unknown if taking oleic acid supplements would have this effect or if this change is clinically significant. Until more is known, use caution. Dose adjustment may be necessary. Some antidiabetes drugs include glimepiride (Amaryl), glyburide (DiaBeta, Glynase PresTab, Micronase), insulin, metformin (Glucophage), pioglitazone (Actos), rosiglitazone (Avandia), and others.
