Reacted Chromium Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Reacted Chromium against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Reacted Chromium by Ortho Molecular Products
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This supplement contains one active ingredient: chromium, a mineral that plays a role in how your body handles blood sugar and uses insulin. The capsule also includes inactive ingredients — microcrystalline cellulose (a binder) and magnesium stearate (a lubricant) — inside a vegetable-based capsule.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Chromium is likely effective for preventing or correcting a chromium deficiency, though true deficiency is rare in people eating a varied diet. For type 2 diabetes, the evidence leans toward possibly effective — some research suggests it may help lower blood sugar in people whose diabetes isn't well controlled.
For prediabetes, schizophrenia, and high blood pressure, current evidence rates it as possibly ineffective, so we can't yet say it's a reliable choice for those uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Chromium is generally well tolerated at typical supplement doses. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal irritation, headaches, insomnia, irritability, and mood changes.
Rare serious effects — such as kidney or liver damage — have been reported, usually at high doses or with long-term use. Skin rashes and contact dermatitis have also occurred, particularly with chromium picolinate in people with a chromium allergy.
During pregnancy, small amounts from food or a prenatal vitamin are considered likely safe, but extra chromium supplements should be avoided unless your doctor advises otherwise. The data for breastfeeding is limited but rates it as likely safe in normal amounts.
If you're pregnant or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking extra chromium.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you start, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take antidiabetes medications or insulin — chromium may raise the risk of low blood sugar. If you take levothyroxine (Synthroid) for your thyroid, spacing the two apart helps reduce interaction.
NSAIDs and aspirin are minor concerns but still worth flagging.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Reacted Chromium may help if you have a chromium deficiency or type 2 diabetes that's hard to control, but you'll want to be cautious if you take diabetes drugs, insulin, or thyroid medication — all can have their effects changed by chromium. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you're on any regular medications.

The most serious interactions are Moderate in severity and involve antidiabetes drugs and insulin — chromium may increase the effect of these medications and raise the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Chromium may also reduce how much levothyroxine (thyroid hormone, brand name Synthroid) your body absorbs; research shows a 17% drop in blood levels when the two are taken together. You'll want to space them apart if you take thyroid medication.
Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen and aspirin are Minor concerns — these pain relievers may increase how much chromium your body retains. Altogether, these interactions span 178 individual medications.
If you take diabetes medications, insulin, levothyroxine, or NSAIDs regularly, check your exact medications with the search tool on this page before you start.

For each ingredient in Reacted Chromium with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Chromium
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, chromium may have additive effects with antidiabetic agents and increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Some research shows that taking chromium might lower blood glucose levels, especially in patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes.
Insulin
Theoretically, concomitant use of chromium and insulin might increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
In clinical research, chromium has been shown to increase insulin sensitivity,
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Chromium might bind levothyroxine in the intestinal tract and decrease levothyroxine absorption.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that taking chromium picolinate 1000 mcg with levothyroxine 1 mg decreases serum levels of levothyroxine by 17% when compared to taking levothyroxine alone. Advise patients to take levothyroxine at least 30 minutes before or 3-4 hours after taking chromium.
Aspirin
Theoretically, aspirin might increase chromium absorption.
Animal research suggests that aspirin may increase chromium absorption and chromium levels in the blood.
Nonsteroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (Nsaids)
NSAIDs might increase chromium levels in the body.
Drugs that are prostaglandin inhibitors, such as NSAIDs, seem to increase chromium absorption and retention.
