What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: red reishi mushroom extract. It has no inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for reishi mushroom is limited. For lowering cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), it rates as possibly ineffective.
For altitude sickness, Alzheimer disease, and athletic performance, we hold insufficient reliable evidence to rate whether it works—the data simply isn't there yet.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Reishi mushroom is generally well tolerated in the short term, but long-term safety hasn't been well studied, so caution is warranted if you plan to use it regularly over months or longer. The most common side effects reported are dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, and stomach upset.
Rare reports include insomnia and headache. Some people can develop a respiratory allergy to reishi spores, with sore throat and runny nose.
The safety data advises against use during pregnancy and while breastfeeding because there isn't enough information to know either way. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this product is right for you if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, double-check with your pharmacist or doctor if you're on blood pressure medications, blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs), or diabetes medications. All three drug types have Moderate interactions with reishi mushroom documented in our data.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Red reishi mushroom extract may be worth considering if you're interested in its potential health effects and you don't take blood pressure, blood-thinning, or diabetes medications. If you do take any of those, or any other prescription drugs, check with your doctor or pharmacist before starting—the interaction risks are real, even if not certain for every person.
Keep in mind that we know little about its long-term safety.

Red Reishi monograph & interactionsRed Reishi Mushroom Extract by Nootropics Depot Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Red Reishi Mushroom Extract by Nootropics Depot contains reishi mushroom, which interacts with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives), blood thinners (anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs), and diabetes medications.
The most serious documented interactions are Moderate in severity.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Reishi mushroom can theoretically lower blood pressure further when combined with blood pressure medications, raising the risk of blood pressure dropping too low (hypotension). At higher doses—3 grams daily or more—it may also increase bleeding risk when taken with blood thinners, though a lower dose of 1.5 grams daily does not appear to affect how platelets clump.
With diabetes medications, reishi mushroom might add to their blood-sugar-lowering effect, though clinical evidence is mixed: it doesn't reliably lower fasting glucose in people with type 2 diabetes.
Altogether, these interactions span 375 individual medications. Before you start this product, run your exact medications through the interaction checker on this page, especially if you take blood pressure drugs, blood thinners, or diabetes treatments.

Red Reishi
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
