Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: reishi extract at 1000 mg per capsule. Reishi is a mushroom used in traditional medicine that's been studied for various health effects.

The capsule also contains two inactive ingredients — acacia gum and white rice flour — to hold the product together.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Reishi Mushroom's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Immune support, fatigue, stress and sleep.
  • We looked for evidence on: Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), Insomnia, Stress, Psychological well-being, General well-being, Sleep quality — and 2 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Reishi Mushroom is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Reishi Mushroom is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Insomnia, Stress, Psychological well-being.

The data we hold shows reishi extract rated as possibly ineffective for high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia). For altitude sickness, Alzheimer disease, and athletic performance, there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate how well it works.

So we can't tell you whether this product will be effective for those uses based on the research available to us.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Reishi extract is generally well tolerated in the short term, but long-term safety hasn't been well studied, so that's something to keep in mind if you're thinking of taking it for months or years. The most common side effects are dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, and stomach upset.

A small number of people have reported respiratory allergy to reishi spores, sore throat, runny nose, insomnia, and headache. There isn't enough safety data to know whether reishi is safe in pregnancy or while breastfeeding — the safety data advises against use in both situations.

Talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing before you take this.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Reishi Mushroom.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: anticoagulant / antiplatelet drugs; diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 375 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking this product, check your exact medications with the tool on this page if you're on blood thinners (anticoagulants) or antiplatelet drugs, blood pressure medications, or diabetes medications. Reishi at higher doses may increase bleeding risk, lower your blood pressure further, or add to blood sugar effects.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Reishi extract may be worth considering if you're curious about traditional mushroom supplements and don't take blood pressure, blood thinner, or diabetes medications. If you're on any of those drugs, or if you're pregnant or nursing, check with your pharmacist before starting.

Long-term safety data is limited, so this is something to discuss with your healthcare provider if you plan to take it for a while.

Reishi Extract 1000 mg by SuperSmart: Common Questions

Does Reishi Extract 1000 mg by SuperSmart interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Reishi Extract 1000 mg has a known interaction with 375 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Reishi Extract 1000 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Can I take this if I'm on a blood pressure medication?
Not without checking first. Reishi has been shown to lower blood pressure in some people, so taking it with your blood pressure drug could theoretically lower your pressure too much. Run your exact medication through the checker on this page, then talk to your pharmacist about whether it's safe for you.
What are the most common side effects?
Dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, and stomach upset are the most common. Some people have also reported sore throat, runny nose, insomnia, or headache. Most people tolerate it well in the short term.
Is it safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. There isn't enough safety data, so it's best avoided during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor if you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing.
Does reishi actually work for high cholesterol?
The evidence we have rates it as possibly ineffective for that use. For other conditions like Alzheimer disease or athletic performance, there's not enough reliable evidence to know whether it works.
How long can I safely take this?
It's generally well tolerated short-term, but long-term safety hasn't been well studied, so we don't have solid data on whether it's safe for months or years. That's worth discussing with your pharmacist if you're thinking of taking it long-term.
Can I take this if I'm on blood thinners?
Possibly, but it depends on your dose. At 1.5 grams daily, reishi doesn't seem to affect bleeding. At higher doses like 3 grams daily, it might increase bleeding risk. Check with your pharmacist before starting, especially if you're on anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs.
