What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: reishi mushroom extract at 500 mg per capsule. The capsules also include several inactive ingredients—gelatin, maltodextrin, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silica—which serve as the capsule shell and binding agents.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for reishi mushroom's effectiveness is limited in the areas we have data for. For high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia), it appears possibly ineffective.
For altitude sickness, Alzheimer disease, and athletic performance, there simply isn't enough reliable evidence to rate whether it works. If you're considering this supplement for a specific health goal, ask your pharmacist what the current evidence shows for that particular use.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Reishi mushroom is generally well tolerated in the short term, though long-term safety hasn't been well studied. The most common side effects are dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, and stomach upset.
A small number of people have reported respiratory allergy to reishi spores, along with sore throat and runny nose. Rare side effects include insomnia and headache.
There isn't enough safety data to know whether reishi is safe during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, so it's best avoided in both situations. If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your pharmacist if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin or aspirin), blood pressure medications, or diabetes medications. All three drug types have documented Moderate-severity interactions with reishi mushroom.

Reishi Mushroom Extract 500 mg by Swanson Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Reishi Mushroom Extract 500 mg by Swanson has documented interactions with three types of medications.
The most serious concern is with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs (drugs that prevent clots). High doses of reishi mushroom might increase bleeding risk — though a standard 1.5-gram daily dose doesn't seem to affect clotting, higher doses of 3 grams daily do appear to thin the blood.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Blood pressure medications are another consideration. Reishi mushroom can lower blood pressure on its own, so taking it with antihypertensive drugs might cause your pressure to drop too far.
Diabetes medications are similarly affected — reishi mushroom may have additive blood-sugar-lowering effects, though clinical evidence is mixed.
Altogether, these interactions span 372 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to search your exact drugs before starting this supplement.
