HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Reishi Mushrooms 550 mg by Ormus Minerals
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: reishi mushroom at 550 mg per capsule. Reishi is a fungal fruiting body that has been used in traditional medicine for centuries.
The capsule itself is made from gelatin, an inactive ingredient that holds the mushroom powder.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence we hold shows reishi mushroom is possibly ineffective for high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia). For other uses — altitude sickness, Alzheimer disease, and athletic performance — there isn't enough reliable evidence in our data to rate whether it works.
If you're considering this supplement for one of those conditions, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether the evidence supports it for your specific situation.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Reishi mushroom is generally well tolerated in the short term, but long-term safety hasn't been well studied. The most common side effects when taken by mouth are dizziness, dry mouth, itching, nausea, rash, and stomach upset.
Less commonly, it can cause insomnia or headache. People sensitive to reishi spores may experience respiratory allergy, sore throat, or runny nose.
Not enough safety data exists to recommend reishi during pregnancy or breastfeeding. If you're pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications before starting if you take blood pressure drugs (antihypertensive drugs) — reishi mushroom may lower your pressure further. Also flag it if you're on blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs, especially at higher doses, because bleeding risk may rise.
If you take diabetes medications, your doctor or pharmacist should review this combination given the potential for additive blood sugar effects.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Reishi mushroom may interest you if you're exploring traditional mushroom supplements, but it's important to know it can lower blood pressure and may increase bleeding risk at higher doses. If you take blood pressure medications, blood thinners, or diabetes drugs, check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this — the combination could affect how well your medications work or increase side effects.
Long-term safety data is limited, so keep that in mind for ongoing use.

Reishi Mushrooms 550 mg by Ormus Minerals Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Reishi Mushrooms by Ormus Minerals contains one active ingredient — reishi mushroom — which interacts with three major drug types.
The most serious concern is a Moderate risk of low blood pressure (hypotension) when combined with blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs). Reishi mushroom has shown the ability to lower blood pressure in animal studies and in some patients, so taking it alongside drugs that already do this could push your pressure too low.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Reishi mushroom also carries a Moderate risk with blood thinners (anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs). At higher doses — around 3 grams daily — it may increase bleeding risk, though lower doses appear not to affect platelet function significantly.
Additionally, reishi mushroom may have additive effects with diabetes medications (antidiabetes drugs) at a Moderate severity level. Animal research suggests it can lower blood sugar, but human studies in type 2 diabetes show inconsistent or no benefit, so the real-world risk remains theoretical.

For each ingredient in Reishi Mushrooms 550 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Reishi Mushrooms
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, high doses of reishi mushroom might increase the risk of bleeding.
A dose of 1.5 grams daily of reishi mushroom does not seem to decrease platelet aggregation, but a higher dose of 3 grams daily does.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, reishi mushroom might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.
Animal research suggests that reishi mushroom decreases blood sugar. However, in patients with type 2 diabetes, taking reishi mushroom does not reduce fasting glucose levels, and its effects on glycated hemoglobin are inconsistent.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, concurrent use of reishi mushroom with antihypertensive drugs might increase the risk of hypotension.
Reishi mushroom has shown hypotensive activity in animal research. Clinical evidence suggests that reishi mushroom reduces blood pressure in some, but not all, patients with hypertension.
