Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Sang Ye contains one active ingredient: certified organic white mulberry leaf extract. This is a traditional botanical used in several culinary and medicinal traditions, and it comes to you here as a concentrated liquid form.

The product also contains vegetable palm glycerin and pharmaceutical-grade alcohol as inactive ingredients—these are the base and preservative that keep the extract stable.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient White Mulberry product and its label doesn't state a use — see White Mulberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence on white mulberry leaf for any specific health purpose isn't established in the data we hold. The supplement has been studied for androgenic alopecia (hair loss), osteoporosis, common cold, diabetes, and high cholesterol, but in each case the evidence is insufficient to rate it as effective.

That doesn't mean it doesn't work—it means the research so far hasn't been strong enough to say either way.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

White mulberry leaf is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. In clinical trials, the most common side effects were temporary digestive ones: bloating and flatulence (in about half of users), loose stools (in a quarter), and constipation (in about one in five).

The good news is these effects often improved over time as people continued taking it. Because white mulberry leaf can lower blood sugar, use it cautiously if you're at risk for low blood sugar or already managing glucose.

During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data on medicinal amounts, so it's best avoided at those times—talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance.

Moderate identified

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — White Mulberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 87 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking Sang Ye, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on diabetes medications—white mulberry leaf lowers blood sugar and raises the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined. Also flag any medications that use the OCT2 kidney transport system, such as metformin or certain antivirals and antibiotics, because white mulberry leaf may slow how your kidneys clear them.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.

Sang Ye by Hawaii Pharm: Common Questions

Does Sang Ye by Hawaii Pharm interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Sang Ye has a known interaction with 87 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Sang Ye contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this lower my blood sugar if I don't have diabetes?
White mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. If you don't have diabetes or take blood-sugar-lowering drugs, the effect may be mild, but it's something to be aware of—especially if you're fasting or have a history of low blood sugar. Your doctor or pharmacist can help you decide whether that's a concern for you.
What are the most common side effects?
Digestive upset is most common: bloating, flatulence, loose stools, and constipation. In one study, these happened in 25–50% of users, but they often got better as people kept taking it, suggesting they may be temporary.
Can I take this if I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety data on medicinal amounts during pregnancy and breastfeeding, so it's best to avoid it at those times. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this is right for you.
Is this the same as mulberry fruit?
This product is made from white mulberry leaf extract, not the fruit. While mulberry fruit is common in food, concentrated leaf supplements are less studied, and the safety data we have is more limited.
Does this product contain alcohol?
Yes—pharmaceutical-grade alcohol is used as a preservative in the liquid extract. If you need to avoid alcohol entirely, let your pharmacist know and ask about other options.
