Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Sang Ye contains one active ingredient: certified organic white mulberry leaf extract. This is a traditional botanical used in several culinary and medicinal traditions, and it comes to you here as a concentrated liquid form.
The product also contains vegetable palm glycerin and pharmaceutical-grade alcohol as inactive ingredients—these are the base and preservative that keep the extract stable.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence on white mulberry leaf for any specific health purpose isn't established in the data we hold. The supplement has been studied for androgenic alopecia (hair loss), osteoporosis, common cold, diabetes, and high cholesterol, but in each case the evidence is insufficient to rate it as effective.
That doesn't mean it doesn't work—it means the research so far hasn't been strong enough to say either way.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
White mulberry leaf is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. In clinical trials, the most common side effects were temporary digestive ones: bloating and flatulence (in about half of users), loose stools (in a quarter), and constipation (in about one in five).
The good news is these effects often improved over time as people continued taking it. Because white mulberry leaf can lower blood sugar, use it cautiously if you're at risk for low blood sugar or already managing glucose.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data on medicinal amounts, so it's best avoided at those times—talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Sang Ye, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you're on diabetes medications—white mulberry leaf lowers blood sugar and raises the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) when combined. Also flag any medications that use the OCT2 kidney transport system, such as metformin or certain antivirals and antibiotics, because white mulberry leaf may slow how your kidneys clear them.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Sang Ye is worth considering if you're interested in white mulberry leaf and you're not taking diabetes medications or OCT2-substrate drugs. If you do take any prescription or over-the-counter medications, especially for diabetes or high cholesterol, check them against the interaction tool on this page and confirm with your own doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Digestive side effects are common but often settle down.

Sang Ye by Hawaii Pharm Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Sang Ye by Hawaii Pharm, which contains white mulberry leaf extract, does interact with medications—specifically through its ability to lower blood sugar and affect how your kidneys clear certain drugs.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
The main concern is with diabetes medications (antidiabetes drugs). White mulberry leaf can lower your blood glucose on its own, so taking it together with insulin or oral diabetes drugs raises the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
If you take any diabetes medication, you'll want to monitor your blood sugar closely and talk to your doctor or pharmacist before adding this supplement.
There's also a moderate interaction with drugs that use a kidney transport system called OCT2 to get filtered out of your body. White mulberry leaf can slow that process, which means the drug stays in your system longer and its effects may build up.
Metformin, a common diabetes medication, is one example. Altogether, these interactions span 87 individual medications.
Before you start this supplement, run any prescription or over-the-counter medications you take through the interaction checker on this page.

certified organic Sang Ye extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely.
Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates
Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.
