Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product is pure white mulberry leaf extract — a single active ingredient in powder form with no inactive fillers listed. White mulberry leaf has been traditionally used and studied for its potential effects on blood sugar and cholesterol, though the evidence for these uses isn't conclusive yet.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient White Mulberry product and its label doesn't state a use — see White Mulberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for white mulberry leaf extract isn't established in our data. We hold insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for androgenic alopecia (hair loss), osteoporosis, common cold, diabetes, or high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia).

While clinical research does show it can lower blood glucose, that doesn't mean it's proven effective as a diabetes treatment or supplement.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data

Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

White mulberry leaf powder is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. The most common side effects are bloating and flatulence — reported in about half of study participants at a dose of 4.6 grams three times daily — along with loose stools in about a quarter and constipation in about a fifth.

The good news is that these digestive effects often improved over time as people continued taking it. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data on medicinal amounts of white mulberry leaf.

The safety data advises against using it in concentrated supplement form during these times. If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — White Mulberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 87 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check your antidiabetes medications (Moderate interaction) before adding this product — white mulberry leaf can lower blood sugar and raise the risk of hypoglycemia. Also verify any OCT2 substrate drugs you take (Moderate interaction), especially metformin — this extract may slow their elimination and increase their side effects.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.

White Mulberry Extract by BulkSupplements.com: Common Questions

Does White Mulberry Extract by BulkSupplements.com interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, White Mulberry Extract has a known interaction with 87 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
White Mulberry Extract contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this help my blood sugar or diabetes?
The evidence isn't established yet. Clinical research does show white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose, but we don't have enough reliable evidence to say it works as a diabetes treatment or supplement. If you have diabetes and want to try it, talk with your doctor first.
What side effects should I expect?
Most people tolerate it well, but about half of study participants reported bloating and flatulence at the tested dose. About a quarter had loose stools and one-fifth had constipation. The good news is these digestive effects often eased up over time.
Is it safe to take during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety data on medicinal amounts. The data advises against using it in concentrated supplement form when you're pregnant or breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.
Can I take this if I'm on metformin?
Not without checking first. Animal research shows white mulberry leaf may slow how your kidneys clear metformin, which could raise its levels. This is a Moderate-severity interaction — ask your pharmacist to confirm it's safe for your dose and situation.
Why is this product just one ingredient with no fillers?
It's a pure extract powder with no added inactive ingredients listed. That means you're getting white mulberry leaf extract and nothing else — which some people prefer, though it also means the powder form may be less convenient to measure or take than a capsule.
