At doses above 300 mg of sparteine — roughly 30 grams of raw scotch broom — toxicity can occur with symptoms including dizziness, headache, heart palpitations (irregular or racing heartbeat), tingling in the arms and legs, weakness, sweating, sleepiness, dilated pupils, and eye muscle paralysis. Nausea, diarrhea, and vertigo are also reported.
The safety data advises against use during pregnancy — it may stimulate the uterus — and during breastfeeding, given the toxic alkaloids present.

Haloperidol (Haldol) inhibits sparteine metabolism, increasing the risk of adverse effects including circulatory collapse.

Quinidine
