Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 2 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

Seabuckthorn SAP contains 2 active ingredients: seabuckthorn fruit oil and seabuckthorn seed oil. Both come from the seabuckthorn berry, a nutrient-dense plant traditionally used to support skin and wound healing.

The product also contains inactive ingredients — vitamin E, gelatin, glycerin, and purified water — which serve as the capsule shell and preservative.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not established

The graded evidence we hold for these ingredients covers different conditions than the ones this product is marketed for, so there's no established rating for its stated use — see Sea Buckthorn's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: source of omega-7 fatty acids for health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Dyslipidemia, Dry eye, Dry skin, Wrinkled skin, Aging skin, cardiovascular health — and 1 related terms.
  • The closest evidence on file: Sea Buckthorn is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Aging skin (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Sea Buckthorn is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Dry eye, Dry skin, Dyslipidemia, Wrinkled skin.

The evidence for seabuckthorn breaks down like this. For burns, it's rated possibly effective — the data suggests it may help, but more research would strengthen that claim.

For eczema (atopic dermatitis), it's rated possibly ineffective based on current studies. For high cholesterol (dyslipidemia), aging skin, and cancer, there isn't enough reliable evidence yet to know whether it works.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Seabuckthorn is generally well tolerated as a food, but supplement safety hasn't been fully studied, so we don't know the long-term picture at higher doses. At high doses — one person took 100 grams daily for 6 months — sea buckthorn can stain your skin yellow.

Rash was reported in 4% of patients in clinical trials. There isn't enough reliable safety data on supplement use while breastfeeding, so if you're nursing, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.

  • For scale: 289 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Before taking Seabuckthorn SAP, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take blood pressure-lowering drugs (Moderate risk of low blood pressure) or blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs like warfarin or aspirin (Moderate risk of increased bleeding). These are the main medication types affected by this product.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

Seabuckthorn SAP may be worth considering if you're interested in wound healing support and don't take blood pressure or blood-thinning medications. If you're on those drugs, or any prescription at all, check with your doctor or pharmacist first — the interactions are real and could affect how your medications work.

This supplement is more established as a food than as a high-dose supplement, so the safety data is limited.

Seabuckthorn SAP by NFH: Common Questions

Does Seabuckthorn SAP by NFH interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Seabuckthorn SAP has a known interaction with 289 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Seabuckthorn SAP contains 2 active ingredients, and an interaction can come from any of them. We check every ingredient, combine the results into one list per medication, and show which ingredient and mechanism is responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this supplement turn my skin yellow?
At normal doses, yellow skin staining is unlikely. It's been reported only at very high doses — one documented case involved 100 grams of sea buckthorn daily for 6 months. At typical supplement doses, this shouldn't happen, but it's something to know.
Does seabuckthorn actually work for burns?
The data rates it possibly effective for burns, which means some research supports it but we'd like more evidence to be sure. It's one of the better-studied uses, but it's not a guarantee.
Is it safe if I'm breastfeeding?
There isn't enough reliable safety data on supplement doses while breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before taking it — they can help you weigh the risks and benefits for your situation.
Can I take this if I use aspirin?
Not without checking first. Sea buckthorn may increase your bleeding risk when combined with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs like aspirin. Your doctor or pharmacist needs to know you're considering this supplement.
What's the difference between the fruit oil and seed oil in here?
Both come from the seabuckthorn berry and have the same documented interactions and possible benefits. The product contains both, so you're getting the full berry profile in each capsule.
