Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Sodium D-Aspartate contains 1 active ingredient: sodium. This powder delivers sodium, an essential mineral your body needs for nerve and muscle function, fluid balance, and blood pressure regulation.
Sodium naturally occurs in food, but this product concentrates it — important to know if you're already managing sodium intake for heart, kidney, or blood pressure reasons.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Sodium is likely effective for cystic fibrosis. It's possibly effective for reducing kidney damage from amphotericin B (a serious antifungal medication).
The data we hold rates its effectiveness for bipolar disorder, congestive heart failure, and other uses as insufficient to say whether it works.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Sodium is well tolerated when you stay within normal dietary levels — around the recommended intake of 2.3 grams per day. The caution is clear: too much sodium, especially from supplements, is linked to high blood pressure, heart strain, and kidney disease.
Excess sodium intake is also associated with increased risk of gastric cancer in population studies. Serious side effects are rare but can include worsened cardiovascular or kidney disease.
During pregnancy and lactation, sodium is rated likely safe in normal amounts, but possibly unsafe at high levels — talk with your doctor or midwife before supplementing. The data we hold doesn't specify what high means for pregnancy, so personalized advice from your care team is important.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this product, check whether you're on lithium (sodium changes can cause serious toxicity), blood pressure medications (excess sodium can weaken them), corticosteroids, didanosine, sodium phosphate, or tolvaptan. All have Moderate interactions with additional sodium.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with strong clinical evidence behind its ingredients' uses. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is pure sodium — useful if you have cystic fibrosis or need sodium replacement under medical supervision, but not for general use or if you're managing blood pressure or heart health. If you take lithium, blood pressure medications, corticosteroids, or other sodium-sensitive drugs, check with us or your pharmacist first.
For most people eating a regular diet, you're already getting enough sodium.

Sodium D-Aspartate by BulkSupplements.com Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Sodium D-Aspartate by BulkSupplements.com is a single-ingredient sodium supplement, and sodium does interact with a number of medications.
The most serious concern is lithium — high sodium intake can lower lithium levels in your blood, reducing how well it works, while low sodium intake can raise lithium levels and trigger toxicity. You'll need to keep your sodium intake steady and work closely with your doctor if you take lithium.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Sodium also has Moderate interactions with blood pressure medications (antihypertensives), which work harder to manage your pressure when you take in excess sodium. It affects corticosteroids (steroids like hydrocortisone or prednisone) by raising sodium levels too high, didanosine (an HIV medication), sodium phosphate (a bowel prep), tolvaptan (used to treat low sodium levels), and any other sodium-containing drugs.
Altogether, these interactions span 203 individual medications.
If you take any of these medication types — especially lithium or blood pressure drugs — check your exact medicines with the search tool on this page before you start.

For each ingredient in Sodium D-Aspartate with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Sodium
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, a high intake of dietary sodium might reduce the effectiveness of antihypertensive drugs.
High intake of dietary sodium can increase systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Also, high intake of sodium may necessitate increased use of antihypertensive medications to achieve blood pressure control in some patients, such as those with chronic kidney disease.
Corticosteroids
Concomitant use of mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Mineralocorticoids and some glucocorticoids (corticosteroids) cause sodium retention. This effect is dose-related and depends on mineralocorticoid potency. It is most common with hydrocortisone, cortisone, and fludrocortisone, followed by prednisone and prednisolone.
Didanosine (Videx)
Concomitant use of didanosine with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Didanosine formulations contain a significant amount of sodium.
Lithium
Altering dietary intake of sodium might alter the levels and clinical effects of lithium.
High sodium intake can reduce plasma concentrations of lithium by increasing lithium excretion. Reducing sodium intake can significantly increase plasma concentrations of lithium and cause lithium toxicity in patients being treated with lithium carbonate. Stabilizing sodium intake is shown to reduce the percentage of patients with lithium level fluctuations above 0.8 mEq/L. Patients taking lithium should avoid significant alterations in their dietary intake of sodium.
Sodium Phosphates
Theoretically, concomitant use of sodium phosphate with sodium supplements might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Use of high doses (> 45 mL in 24 hours) of sodium phosphate, such as those used for bowel cleansing before surgery, can lead to serious electrolyte disturbances, including hypernatremia. The risk of hypernatremia is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Sodium-Containing Drugs
Concomitant use of sodium-containing drugs with additional sodium from dietary or supplemental sources may increase the risk of hypernatremia and long-term sodium-related complications.
The Chronic Disease Risk Reduction (CDRR) intake level of 2.3 grams of sodium daily indicates the intake at which it is believed that chronic disease risk increases for the apparently healthy population. Some medications contain high quantities of sodium. When used in conjunction with sodium supplements or high-sodium diets, the CDRR may be exceeded. Additionally, concomitant use may increase the risk for hypernatremia; this risk is highest in the elderly and people with other risk factors for electrolyte disturbances.
Tolvaptan (Samsca)
Theoretically, concomitant use of tolvaptan with sodium might increase the risk of hypernatremia.
Tolvaptan is a vasopressin receptor 2 antagonist that is used to increase sodium levels in patients with hyponatremia. Patients taking tolvaptan should use caution with the use of sodium salts such as sodium chloride.
