What’s inside
Full disclosure
Strontium Bone Maker contains one active ingredient: strontium citrate at 340 mg per capsule. The inactive ingredients are modified cellulose, cellulose, and magnesium stearate — common capsule materials and binders.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The data we hold shows strontium citrate is rated Effective for dental hypersensitivity and painful bony metastases (cancer bone pain). It's rated Likely Effective for osteoporosis.
For osteoarthritis and prostate cancer, the evidence is Possibly Effective — meaning there's some promising data, but it's not yet strong enough to be certain.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Strontium ranelate (a common form) has been linked to serious heart and blood clotting risks. When taken orally at typical doses, most people tolerate it fairly well, with the most common side effects being skin irritation (dermatitis or eczema), diarrhea, headache, and nausea.
However, clinical research shows a roughly 50% increased risk of blood clots (venous thromboembolism) and a 1.6-fold higher risk of heart attack in people with osteoporosis — these are rare but serious. During pregnancy, safety hasn't been established and strontium is best avoided.
While breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety information, so it should be avoided as well.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, double-check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take estrogens (birth control, hormone therapy), androgens (testosterone), antacids, quinolone antibiotics (like ciprofloxacin), or tetracycline antibiotics (like doxycycline) — all are Moderate-severity interactions. If you take any of these, spacing the strontium dose at least 2 hours apart may help, but your healthcare provider needs to review your specific situation.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Strontium may help with bone pain, dental sensitivity, and osteoporosis, but it carries real concerns about blood clots and heart risks that shouldn't be overlooked. It also interacts with common medications — hormones, antacids, and certain antibiotics — so you'll need to space doses carefully or choose alternatives.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, especially if you have a history of clots, heart disease, or take estrogens, androgens, or antibiotics.

General Statements
340 mg
Strontium is a naturally occurring mineral present in water and food. Trace amounts of strontium are found in the human skeleton. Strontium has an affinity for bone and is taken up at the bone matrix crystal surface. The influence of strontium on bone metabolism has been researched since the 1950’s. Studies indicate that strontium positively affects bone metabolism to promote bone formation rather than bone resorption, helping maintain bone density.* Helps maintain strong, healthy bones.*

Strontium Bone Maker 340 mg by Doctor's Best Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Strontium Bone Maker by Doctor's Best contains strontium citrate, which has documented interactions with five medication types.
The most serious concern is a Moderate-severity interaction with estrogens and androgens (such as testosterone): these hormones may slow how your body clears strontium, potentially building it up to higher levels and increasing the risk of side effects.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Antacids are another Moderate concern — aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, and especially calcium can block strontium absorption by 20% to 70%, which means the supplement won't work as well. You'll want to space them at least 2 hours apart.
Quinolone antibiotics (like ciprofloxacin) and tetracycline antibiotics (like doxycycline) also interact at Moderate severity: strontium can form complexes with these drugs in your gut and prevent them from being absorbed, making the antibiotics less effective. Again, keep them 2 hours apart.
Altogether, these interactions span 101 individual medications. Check your exact prescriptions using the tool on this page before you start, and if you take any of these drug types, run it by your doctor or pharmacist first.

For each ingredient in Strontium Bone Maker 340 mg with known interactions, here are the types of medications it can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Strontium
Androgens
Theoretically, androgens might reduce the excretion of strontium, potentially increasing its effects and adverse effects.
A small clinical study suggests that treatment with androgens such as testosterone, nandrolone, oxandrolone, and oxymetholone for 5-6 weeks might decrease urinary strontium excretion. The clinical significance of this interaction is unknown.
Antacids
Antacids can reduce the absorption of strontium, potentially decreasing its effectiveness.
Aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide can reduce absorption of strontium ranelate by 20% to 25%. Calcium can reduce its absorption to 60% to 70%. Avoid taking antacids within 2 hours of a dose of strontium ranelate. This interaction has also been reported with orally-administered radioactive strontium-85. It will likely also occur with other forms of strontium.
Estrogens
Theoretically, estrogens might reduce the excretion of strontium, potentially increasing its effects and adverse effects.
A small clinical study suggests that treatment with estrogens for 5-6 weeks might decrease urinary strontium excretion. The clinical significance of this interaction is unknown.
Quinolone Antibiotics
Theoretically, strontium might decrease the absorption of quinolone antibiotics.
Strontium is a divalent cation with similar properties to calcium. It is likely to form complexes with quinolones in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, preventing absorption of the antibiotic. Recommend taking strontium supplements at least 2 hours before or after quinolones to avoid an interaction.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, strontium might decrease the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics.
Strontium is a divalent cation with similar properties to calcium. It is likely to form complexes with tetracyclines in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract, preventing absorption of the antibiotic. Recommend taking strontium supplements at least 2 hours before or after tetracyclines to avoid an interaction.
