What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 6 active ingredients.
  • “Proprietary Probiotic Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label gives one combined amount (205.63 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

TheralacPRO contains six probiotic strains — live microorganisms intended to support gut health. The two we have data for are Lactobacillus acidophilus (listed as two separate strains: LA-14 and plain L. acidophilus) and Bifidobacterium animalis lactis (also listed twice: as Bi-07 and plain B. animalis lactis).

The product also includes Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG and Lactobacillus paracasei, both widely used probiotics. The remaining ingredients are fillers and binders — microcrystalline cellulose, sodium alginate, magnesium stearate, and others — to hold the capsule together.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Supports digestive and immune health.
  • We looked for evidence on: Antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Bacterial vaginosis, Clostridioides difficile infection, Constipation, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Bacterial vaginosis, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Respiratory tract infections, Constipation, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Lactose intolerance.

For the Lactobacillus acidophilus strains in this product, the evidence suggests they may help with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), Helicobacter pylori infection, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, and bacterial vaginosis — all rated possibly effective. The same strains were rated possibly ineffective for atopic disease (allergic conditions).

For acute respiratory distress syndrome, the evidence isn't yet strong enough to rate. We don't have effectiveness ratings on file for the other strains — Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis Bi-07, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis, or Lactobacillus paracasei — so we can't speak to what they do.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. That said, since it's a live organism, there's a theoretical concern it could cause infection in certain people — cases of bacteremia, sepsis, and other serious infections have been reported, though most are thought to stem from bacteria moving from places where they already live naturally in the body.

When taken by mouth with other probiotics, some people report mild gastrointestinal side effects — stomach pain, bloating, gas, diarrhea, or upset stomach — but these are uncommon. In one trial, a combination of probiotics (including L. acidophilus) was linked to rash and itching in a small number of participants, though it's unclear whether L. acidophilus itself was responsible.

We don't have pregnancy or breastfeeding safety information on file for any of these ingredients, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist if you're pregnant or nursing.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Lactobacillus Acidophilus.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 182 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take antibiotic drugs, you'll want to talk with your pharmacist about the best way to time TheralacPRO — taking it at the same time could reduce how well it works. For the other probiotic strains we couldn't check (Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, Bifidobacterium animalis lactis Bi-07 and plain, and Lactobacillus paracasei), we hold no interaction data, so use the medication checker below with your full prescription list to be sure.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

TheralacPRO is a multi-strain probiotic that may help with IBS, antibiotic-related diarrhea, and a few other digestive issues — evidence is still developing. The main thing to watch is timing: if you're on antibiotics, space them apart from this supplement so the antibiotics don't kill off the beneficial bacteria.

If you're generally healthy, it's well tolerated, though some people feel mild stomach upset when they first start. Check your exact medications with our tool before you begin, and talk to your pharmacist if you have any health concerns.

Antibiotic Drugs

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.
