TriEnza Powder is a blend of 11 digestive enzymes designed to help break down food. The active ingredients include lactase (breaks down milk sugar), lipase (helps digest fats), cellulase (breaks down plant fibers), protease and protease 6.0 (break down protein), and several others including amylase, invertase, xylanase, dipeptidyl peptidase-IV, diastase, glucoamylase, and beta-glucanase.
The product also contains two inactive ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose and medium chain triglyceride powder, which are fillers and binders.

The evidence we hold shows lactase is effective for lactose intolerance — that's the main digestive complaint this product can claim solid support for. For the other enzymes and uses like colic, prematurity, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), or general indigestion (dyspepsia), the evidence isn't established in the data we have.

How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lactase is rated likely safe in pregnancy and lactation. Lipase is generally well tolerated in supplement form, though there's little safety data in pregnancy or breastfeeding — your doctor should weigh in before regular use.
Protease and protease 6.0 are generally well tolerated for most adults but may cause digestive upset or allergic reactions; safety has not been established in pregnancy, so they're best avoided unless prescribed, and breastfeeding use is not recommended without medical advice. Rarely, occupational exposure to proteolytic enzymes has caused allergic rhinoconjunctivitis or asthma, and a single case of contact dermatitis and allergic rhinoconjunctivitis from powdered lactase has been reported.
Serious gastrointestinal effects including necrotizing enterocolitis have been reported with recombinant lipase in premature infants, though this product's lipase source and intended use differ.
