Tulsi Moringa Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Tulsi Moringa against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

What’s inside
Low disclosure
This tea contains 5 ingredients: lemongrass, moringa, holy basil (also called tulsi or East Indian basil), and two proprietary blends listed as ingredients. The active components are the herbs themselves.
There are no inactive ingredients listed. Lemongrass is an herb traditionally used in teas and cooking.
Moringa is a leafy plant rich in nutrients. Holy basil—the main ingredient in the tulsi blend—is a traditional herb in Ayurvedic medicine.
Each brings its own compound profile to the blend.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold does not establish that any of these ingredients work reliably for their traditional uses. Lemongrass, moringa, and holy basil have all been studied for conditions like headache, diabetes, cough, asthma, and anxiety, but the data we have rates all of them as having insufficient reliable evidence to rate their effectiveness for these purposes.
This doesn't mean they don't work—it means the clinical evidence isn't strong enough to say either way.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Lemongrass is likely safe in food amounts, but medicinal or concentrated doses should be avoided due to limited safety data and traditional concerns. Moringa leaf generally seems well tolerated as food, though a small number of trial participants experienced transient diarrhea (about 1 in 4 in one study), and rare cases of serious allergic reactions including anaphylaxis have been reported.
Roots and bark of moringa may be unsafe and should be avoided. Holy basil is generally well tolerated short-term in adults, but long-term safety data are limited.
A small number of trial participants reported nausea or loose stools. The safety data advise against moringa during pregnancy (though it's rated possibly safe) and against holy basil during pregnancy and breastfeeding due to insufficient human data.
For lemongrass, pregnancy safety is rated likely unsafe, and breastfeeding safety is not rated in our data—talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized guidance if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this product, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you use blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs) or barbiturate sedatives like pentobarbital, as holy basil and lemongrass may increase bleeding risk or sedative effects. Also flag diabetes medications (the product may lower blood sugar further), thyroid medication (moringa may interfere), and any drug your liver processes heavily, since these ingredients may raise or lower drug levels in unpredictable ways.
If you take any of these, run your exact medications through the checker on this page.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This is a traditional herbal tea blend, but the active ingredients haven't been proven effective for specific health claims in our data. More importantly, if you take medications for blood clotting, diabetes, thyroid disease, or any drug your liver processes, you need to check your exact prescriptions against the interactions listed here before starting it.
Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should talk with their doctor or pharmacist first. For anyone else using it occasionally as a food-form tea, it's generally tolerated—but if you're using medicinal amounts, the safety information is too limited to recommend that.

Tulsi Moringa by Organic India Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Organic India's Tulsi Moringa interacts with medications through its lemongrass, moringa, and holy basil (tulsi) content.
The most serious interaction is a Moderate risk: lemongrass and holy basil may increase the effects and side effects of pentobarbital (a barbiturate sedative), and holy basil may raise the bleeding risk with blood thinners (anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs) by prolonging bleeding time.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Lemongrass may also affect how your liver metabolizes certain drugs (CYP3A4 substrates), potentially raising their levels, and may speed up clearance of drugs that are glucuronidated, lowering their effectiveness. Moringa carries similar concerns with CYP3A4 substrates—research is mixed on whether it raises or lowers levels—and theoretically may interfere with thyroid medication (levothyroxine), reduce the effectiveness of some cancer and heart drugs (P-glycoprotein substrates), and could add to the blood-sugar-lowering effect of diabetes medications, though human evidence is inconsistent.
Holy basil (appearing as tulsi blend and East Indian basil in this product) may also increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) if you take diabetes drugs, based on small clinical studies showing it can lower fasting glucose. Altogether, these interactions span 964 individual medications.
None of the checked ingredients have zero interactions documented. Use the medication checker on this page to see if any of your specific drugs are affected, and talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting this product if you take blood thinners, barbiturate sedatives, thyroid medication, diabetes drugs, or any medication metabolized by your liver.

Moringa
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, moringa might increase or decrease levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some in vitro research suggests that moringa inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). However, other in vitro research suggests that moringa extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes. A pharmacokinetic study in patients with HIV shows no change in the pharmacokinetics of nevirapine, which is partially metabolized by CYP3A4, when administered concomitantly with moringa leaf powder 1.85 grams daily for 14 days.
Levothyroxine (Synthroid, Others)
Theoretically, moringa leaf can antagonize the effects of levothyroxine.
Animal research suggests that moringa aqueous leaf extract might reduce serum triiodothyronine (T3) concentrations by inhibiting the peripheral conversion of thyroxine (T4) to T3.
P-Glycoprotein Substrates
Theoretically, moringa leaf extract might increase the levels and clinical effects of P-glycoprotein substrates.
In vitro research shows that moringa leaf extract inhibits renal P-glycoprotein transport activity. So far, this reaction has not been reported in humans.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, moringa might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs; however, research is conflicting.
Animal research shows that moringa can lower blood glucose levels. However, research in humans has not shown consistent blood glucose lowering effects.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Theoretically, moringa might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that moringa extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Nevirapine (Viramune)
Moringa leaf is unlikely to have a clinically significant interaction with nevirapine.
Nevirapine is partially metabolized by cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). In vitro evidence suggests that moringa inhibits CYP3A4. However, a pharmacokinetic study in patients with HIV shows no change in nevirapine pharmacokinetics when administered concomitantly with moringa leaf powder 1.85 grams daily for 14 days.
Lemongrass
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, lemongrass might decrease the metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates.
Animal research shows that lemongrass and its constituent citral inhibit CYP3A4.
Glucuronidated Drugs
Theoretically, lemongrass might increase the clearance and decrease the levels of glucuronidated drugs.
Animal research shows that lemongrass and its constituent citral induce uridine diphosphoglucuronosyl transferase (UGT), the major phase 2 enzyme that is responsible for glucuronidation.
Pentobarbital (Nembutal)
Theoretically, lemongrass might increase the effects and adverse effects of pentobarbital.
Animal research shows that high doses of lemongrass essential oil increases sleep time and decreases time to fall asleep in animals administered pentobarbital.
Holy Basil
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, holy basil seed oil might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
Animal research shows that holy basil seed oil can prolong bleeding time, possibly due to inhibition of platelet aggregation. However, it is not known if this occurs in humans.
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, holy basil might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Small clinical studies show that taking holy basil can decrease fasting blood glucose and other measures of glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Pentobarbital (Nembutal)
Theoretically, holy basil seed oil might increase the sedative effects of pentobarbital.
