Urinary Support Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Urinary Support against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Urinary Support by Gaia Herbs SystemSupport
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Urinary Support contains four active ingredients. Coptis (goldthread) is a traditional herb used to support urinary health.
Echinacea supreme is included for immune support. Uva ursi is a botanical traditionally used for the urinary tract.
Usnea lichen rounds out the blend. The product also contains vegetable glycerin and vegetable cellulose as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Leans against
The evidence for these ingredients is limited. For coptis and echinacea, we have no effectiveness ratings on file.
Uva ursi is rated Possibly Ineffective for urinary tract infections — the main condition people use this type of product for — and we don't have established evidence for bronchitis or benign prostatic hyperplasia. Usnea has Insufficient Reliable Evidence for cough, pain, wound healing, tinea pedis (fungal foot infection), and obesity.
Overall, the data we hold doesn't establish that this product works for its intended purpose.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Echinacea is generally well tolerated short-term but can cause stomach upset, rashes, nausea, diarrhea, and constipation in some people. Rare cases of hepatitis and severe allergic reactions (including anaphylaxis) have been reported, especially in those sensitive to ragweed and related plants.
Uva ursi is well tolerated at low doses in the short term but can be toxic at high doses or with prolonged use — very high doses of 30 grams or more may be fatal. At high doses it can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach upset.
Usnea's oral form may carry a risk of liver damage from its usnic acid constituent; topical use is generally safer. Coptis has limited human safety data and quality varies between products.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking this, double-check if you're on cholesterol drugs, immunosuppressants, or cyclosporine (coptis can raise their levels). Check also for caffeine-containing products or stimulants, CYP3A4 substrates like certain heart and cancer drugs, the blood thinner warfarin, HIV medications, sedatives, lithium, or urinary acidifying agents.
If you're unsure whether your medications fall into these categories, ask your pharmacist or use the checker below.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with graded evidence leaning against its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
If you take any prescription medications — especially statins, immunosuppressants, warfarin, or lithium — check them against the tool on this page before starting this product. Pregnant or nursing mothers should avoid coptis, uva ursi, and usnea (echinacea is possibly safe in pregnancy, but talk to your doctor).
For anyone else considering this product, the evidence that it actually works for urinary support is weak.

Urinary Support by Gaia Herbs SystemSupport Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Gaia Herbs SystemSupport Urinary Support contains four active ingredients, three of which have documented interactions with medications.
The most serious concern is coptis (goldthread), which contains berberine and has Moderate-severity interactions with drugs metabolized by the CYP3A4 enzyme — including cholesterol-lowering statins and immunosuppressants like cyclosporine. Berberine may slow how your body clears these drugs, raising their levels.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Echinacea has Moderate interactions with several drug types: CYP1A2 substrates (it can raise caffeine levels by roughly 30%), CYP3A4 substrates (the interaction is unpredictable), immunosuppressants (echinacea boosts your immune response, which works against these drugs), and the cancer drug etoposide. It also has Minor interactions with the blood thinner warfarin, the HIV combination lopinavir/ritonavir, and the sedative midazolam.
Uva ursi has Moderate interactions with CYP2C19 and CYP3A4 substrates, glucuronidated drugs (medications cleared by a different liver pathway), lithium, and urinary acidifying agents — and Minor interactions with P-glycoprotein substrates. Usnea lichen has no documented interactions in our data.
Altogether, these interactions span 908 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to see if any of yours are affected before you start.
