Abrocitinib falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Uva Ursi interacts with.

Theoretically, uva ursi may decrease the metabolism of CYP2C19 substrates.
In vitro, uva ursi appears to inhibit cytochrome CYP2C19. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the basic idea with these two together. Your body uses an enzyme called CYP2C19 to help break down and clear abrocitinib (Cibinqo). In lab studies, uva ursi appears to slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in real life, abrocitinib could clear a bit more slowly and build up in your system, which might nudge up its effects and side effects, things like nausea, headache, acne, or a higher chance of infections since this medicine quiets the immune system.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. This has only been seen in test tube studies, not in actual people, so it's theoretical. Still, abrocitinib is a serious medication, so before adding a uva ursi supplement, please run it past your pharmacist or doctor first.

Uva ursi is a traditional herb used mainly for urinary tract infections, and its leaves contain a compound called arbutin that may have antimicrobial effects in the urine. Evidence in people is limited, and because high doses or long-term use may be harmful to the liver and could be toxic, it should only be used short-term and with guidance from a healthcare professional. Avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

What Is Abrocitinib Used For?

Brand name: Cibinqo

Cibinqo (abrocitinib) is used to treat moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and children 12 years of age and older. It is specifically for people whose eczema has not been adequately controlled with other systemic (whole-body) treatments, including biologics, or when those treatments are not a safe option.

Cibinqo is not recommended to be used at the same time as other JAK inhibitors, biologic immunomodulators, or other immunosuppressants (medicines that reduce immune system activity).
