What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: vitamin B12, a B vitamin essential for nerve function, red blood cell formation, and DNA synthesis. The liquid also includes certified organic vegetable glycerin and triple-distilled water as inactive ingredients.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
Vitamin B12 is effective for treating Imerslund-Grasbeck disease (a rare inherited B12 absorption disorder) and vitamin B12 deficiency itself. It's also likely effective for cyanide poisoning.
For canker sores and postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain after shingles), the evidence is possibly effective—meaning some clinical support exists, but more research would strengthen the case.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
B12 is generally well tolerated and has no established upper limit because your body removes excess through urine. The most common side effect with injections is mild irritation at the injection site.
Oral forms rarely cause allergic reactions like rash or itching; in very rare cases, correcting severe B12 deficiency can cause a dangerous drop in potassium levels, though this is uncommon. B12 is needed during pregnancy and breastfeeding and is considered safe at recommended amounts—follow your provider's dosing advice.
Meds to double-check
Minor interactions only
If you take metformin (Glucophage) for diabetes, let your pharmacist know—it can lower B12 levels over time. No other interactions are documented for the ingredients we could check.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Only minor medication interactions are documented, and safety information is well characterized.
VeganSafe B-12 is a straightforward supplement for preventing or treating B12 deficiency, especially useful if you're vegan or have absorption issues. If you take metformin for diabetes, this is worth discussing with your doctor—supplementation may help offset the drug's effect on your B12 levels.
