VeganZyme Ingredients & Drug Interactions
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking VeganZyme against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
VeganZyme contains 20 active ingredients, all enzymes designed to help break down food. The proprietary blend includes amylase (breaks down carbohydrates), papain from papaya (breaks down protein), bromelain from pineapple (also breaks down protein), lipase (breaks down fats), and lactase (breaks down milk sugar).
It also contains several other specialized enzymes — cellulase, pectinase, invertase, glucoamylase, xylanase, maltase, catalase, beta-glucanase, phytase, hemicellulase, nattokinase, alpha-galactosidase, serrapeptase, glucose oxidase, and protease — each targeting different food components. The capsule also holds inactive ingredients: cellulose, gum acacia, rice, and ormus minerals.
These are fillers and binders that help hold the capsule together.
Does it work?
Strong evidence
The evidence on these enzymes is limited. Lactase — the ingredient that breaks down milk sugar — is effective for lactose intolerance.
For the other ingredients in this blend (papain, bromelain, lipase, nattokinase, serrapeptase, protease, and others), the effectiveness data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence to rate them for their intended uses — meaning the research either doesn't exist, isn't solid enough, or is mixed. We have no effectiveness data on file for several of the enzymes in the blend.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Most of these enzymes are generally well tolerated at normal doses. Papain may irritate your digestive tract and can cause allergic reactions in sensitive people — symptoms include itchy watery eyes, runny nose, sneezing, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea.
Bromelain's most common side effects are diarrhea, flatulence, gas, and stomach upset; it can also trigger allergic reactions. Serrapeptase may cause stomach pain, nausea, or general digestive upset, though these side effects appear rare.
Nattokinase carries a rare risk of bleeding and has been linked to a case of brain hemorrhage. Protease can cause digestive upset or allergic reactions.
Lipase has no reported adverse effects in adults, though safety data are limited. We have no reliable pregnancy safety data for papain, bromelain, nattokinase, serrapeptase, phytase, or protease — the facts advise against them in pregnancy.
For lipase and lactase, limited data exist; talk with your doctor before regular use. Breastfeeding safety is not well studied for most of these ingredients; check with your healthcare provider first.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications against this product if you take blood thinners or antiplatelet drugs (like warfarin, aspirin, or other anticoagulants) — papain, bromelain, nattokinase, and serrapeptase all raise bleeding risk at Moderate severity. If you take blood pressure medications, nattokinase may lower your pressure further.
Tetracycline antibiotics may have their absorption increased by bromelain, though evidence is limited and mixed. Several enzymes in this blend (amylase, cellulase, pectinase, invertase, glucoamylase, xylanase, maltase, catalase, beta-glucanase, hemicellulase, alpha-galactosidase, and glucose oxidase) have not been checked for interactions — we hold no data for them.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with clinical evidence supporting its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
VeganZyme may help with general digestion, and lactase in it is effective for milk sugar sensitivity. However, if you take blood thinners, blood pressure medications, or tetracycline antibiotics, you need to check your specific medications against this product before starting it — several ingredients here can interact with them.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding data are thin for most of these enzymes; talk with your pharmacist or doctor if you're considering this during either. If you have a serious digestive condition, get medical approval first.

VeganZyme by Global Healing Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
VeganZyme by Global Healing contains several enzymes, and a few of them interact with medications.
The most serious interaction involves nattokinase with blood thinners (anticoagulants) and antiplatelet drugs like aspirin or warfarin — nattokinase has blood-thinning effects, and there's a case report of brain bleeding in someone who combined it with aspirin. This is a Moderate severity concern.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Bromelain and serrapeptase also interact with blood thinners and antiplatelet drugs at Moderate severity, raising the risk of bleeding. Additionally, papain may increase the effects of warfarin specifically, also at Moderate severity.
Bromelain also has a Minor interaction with tetracycline antibiotics, which it may increase the absorption of — though one study found no significant effect.
Nattokinase carries a second Moderate interaction with blood pressure medications (antihypertensive drugs), as it may lower blood pressure further. Amylase, cellulase, pectinase, invertase, glucoamylase, xylanase, maltase, catalase, beta-glucanase, hemicellulase, alpha-galactosidase, and glucose oxidase have not been checked for interactions — we hold no data for them.
Altogether, these interactions span 306 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact prescriptions before starting this product.

For each ingredient in VeganZyme with known interactions, here are the types of medications they can affect. Open any type for the detail — or search your exact drug in the checker above.
Nattokinase
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Nattokinase might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
Nattokinase has thrombolytic and anticoagulant effects. There is a case report of intracranial hemorrhage in a patient who added nattokinase to aspirin therapy.
Antihypertensive Drugs
Theoretically, nattokinase might increase the risk of hypotension when used with antihypertensive drugs.
Some clinical research suggests that nattokinase may reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure.
Bromelain
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Bromelain may have antiplatelet effects and may increase the risk of bleeding if used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
There is one case report of a patient experiencing minor bruising while taking bromelain with naproxen. Bromelain is thought to have antiplatelet activity. Whether this interaction is of concern with topical bromelain is unclear. Interference with coagulation of burn wounds has been reported in a patient receiving bromelain-based enzymatic debridement. However, observational research has found that topical bromelain debridement is not associated with increases or decreases in laboratory markers of coagulation when compared with surgical debridement.
Tetracycline Antibiotics
Theoretically, bromelain might increase levels of tetracycline antibiotics.
Laboratory research suggests that bromelain might increase the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics. However, a study in healthy adults reported no difference in tetracycline plasma levels when a 500 mg dose was taken with or without bromelain 80 mg.
Serrapeptase
Anticoagulant/Antiplatelet Drugs
Theoretically, taking serrapeptase with drugs that have antiplatelet or anticoagulant effects might increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
In vitro research shows that serrapeptase has fibrinolytic activity.
Papain
Warfarin (Coumadin)
Theoretically, papain might increase the effects and side effects of warfarin.
In one case report, a patient previously stable on warfarin was found to have an international normalization ratio (INR) of 7.4, which was attributed to ingestion of a supplement containing papain from papaya extract.
