Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
TETRACYCLINE ANTIBIOTICS
Why this applies to Tigecycline
Tigecycline falls under TETRACYCLINE ANTIBIOTICS — the group Bromelain interacts with.
Laboratory research suggests that bromelain might increase the absorption of tetracycline antibiotics. However, a study in healthy adults reported no difference in tetracycline plasma levels when a 500 mg dose was taken with or without bromelain 80 mg.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the short version on pairing bromelain with tigecycline (Tygacil). The idea, mostly from lab work, is that bromelain might help your body absorb more of a tetracycline-type antibiotic, which could nudge drug levels up a bit. With tigecycline that would, in theory, mean more of the usual side effects like nausea, vomiting, or stomach upset. Tigecycline is not a prodrug, so there's no flip here.
Honestly though, this one is pretty weak. A study in healthy adults found no real change in tetracycline levels with bromelain. On top of that, tigecycline is given by IV in the hospital, not by mouth, so absorption changes matter even less. Still, mention any supplements to your care team so they have the full picture.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Tigecycline page
“Tigecycline (Tygacil) is an intravenous antibiotic usually reserved for serious or resistant infections, and its supplement list deserves real attention. The two major-rated entries come first: oleander, a heart-toxic plant whose compounds may build to dangerous levels with certain antibiotics on board, and PABA, which can blunt the an…”

About Bromelain
What is Bromelain?
- Inflammation and swelling
- Sinus and nasal congestion
- Digestion support
- Post-surgery or injury recovery
- Joint pain
- Allergic rhinitis
Bromelain is a group of protein-digesting enzymes from pineapple that people take mainly for inflammation, swelling, and sinus problems. Some early studies are promising, but the overall evidence is limited and far from conclusive. It is generally well tolerated short-term, but pregnant and breastfeeding people should avoid it, and anyone with a pineapple allergy or bleeding concerns should check with a pharmacist first.
About Tigecycline Injection
What Is Tigecycline Injection Used For?
Brand name: Tygacil
Tygacil (tigecycline for injection) is approved for adults 18 and older to treat three types of serious bacterial infections: complicated skin and skin structure infections, complicated intra-abdominal (stomach and intestinal) infections, and community-acquired bacterial pneumonia (pneumonia caught outside a hospital).
It is not approved for diabetic foot infections or for pneumonia caught in a hospital setting, including ventilator-associated pneumonia — clinical trials showed it did not work well enough for those uses and was associated with higher mortality in patients with ventilator-associated pneumonia.
