What’s inside

Low disclosure
Ingredient Transparency · database check
Low

Most active ingredients don't disclose an individual amount — you can't tell how much of each you're getting.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 0 of its 2 active ingredients.
  • “Probiotic Blend” is a proprietary blend — the label gives one combined amount (60 mg) without saying how much of each component you get.

Vital-Dophilus Plus contains two active probiotic ingredients: Lactobacillus acidophilus and Lactobacillus rhamnosus. Both are live beneficial bacteria designed to support digestive and gut health.

The powder also contains inulin as an inactive ingredient, which serves as a prebiotic fiber to help feed the probiotics.

Moderate evidence
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Moderate

Some clinical evidence supports this product's ingredients for its stated purpose, but it isn't conclusive.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets this product for: Digestive health and immune support.
  • We looked for evidence on: Antibiotic-associated diarrhea, Bacterial vaginosis, Clostridioides difficile infection, Colic, Constipation, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) — and 4 related terms.
  • The strongest evidence on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Antibiotic-associated diarrhea (Natural Medicines).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Possibly Effective" for Bacterial vaginosis, Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
  • Also on file: Lactobacillus Acidophilus is rated "Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate" for Constipation, Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), Lactose intolerance, Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC).

Lactobacillus acidophilus has the strongest evidence for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), antibiotic-associated diarrhea, bacterial vaginosis, and Helicobacter pylori infection — all rated possibly effective based on available research. It is rated possibly ineffective for atopic disease (allergic and immune conditions), and there isn't enough reliable evidence to rate it for acute respiratory distress syndrome.

We don't have effectiveness data on file for Lactobacillus rhamnosus.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is generally well tolerated in healthy adults and children. Mild gastrointestinal side effects like bloating, gas, abdominal discomfort, or diarrhea can occur when taking it with other probiotics, but these are uncommon.

Because these are live organisms, there is a theoretical concern about infection in certain vulnerable patients — most cases documented have been in people with underlying translocation risk or severe immune compromise. Check with your doctor before using this product, especially if you have a weakened immune system or serious illness.

We don't have safety or adverse-effect data on file for Lactobacillus rhamnosus.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — Lactobacillus Acidophilus.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • For scale: 182 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

If you take antibiotic drugs, check your exact medication below before starting — you'll need to separate the timing of your antibiotic and this probiotic to protect the live organisms. We could not check Lactobacillus rhamnosus because we don't hold interaction data for it.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

This probiotic is worth considering if you have IBS, antibiotic-associated diarrhea, or certain infections and want a possibly effective option. If you're on antibiotics, space out the timing — don't take them together.

Antibiotic Drugs

Theoretically, taking Lactobacillus acidophilus with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. acidophilus.
L. acidophilus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. acidophilus preparations by at least two hours.

Vital-Dophilus Plus by Klaire Labs: Common Questions

Does Vital-Dophilus Plus by Klaire Labs interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, Vital-Dophilus Plus has a known interaction with 182 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
Vital-Dophilus Plus contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Do I take this at the same time as my antibiotic?
No — the antibiotic will kill off the live bacteria in this probiotic. Space them out by a few hours so the probiotic can do its job. Your pharmacist can help you work out the best timing.
Will this help with my IBS?
Lactobacillus acidophilus is possibly effective for IBS based on current research, which means there's some evidence it may help, but it's not guaranteed to work for everyone. Talk with your doctor about whether it's right for you.
Can I take this if I have a weak immune system?
Check with your doctor first. While these probiotics are generally well tolerated, there's a theoretical concern about infection in people with weakened immunity. Your doctor knows your full medical picture and can advise you safely.
What are the side effects?
Most people tolerate it well. Mild gas, bloating, abdominal discomfort, or diarrhea can happen when taking probiotics together, but these are uncommon. A rash and itching were reported rarely in one trial, though it's unclear if they were caused by this ingredient or something else.
Is there enough information about this during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
We don't have safety data on file for these ingredients during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Talk with your obstetrician or pharmacist to figure out what's right for you.
