What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product is pure white mulberry leaf extract — a single active ingredient in powder form with no inactive fillers listed. White mulberry leaf has been traditionally used and studied for its potential effects on blood sugar and cholesterol, though the evidence for these uses isn't conclusive yet.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The evidence for white mulberry leaf extract isn't established in our data. We hold insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for androgenic alopecia (hair loss), osteoporosis, common cold, diabetes, or high cholesterol (hyperlipidemia).
While clinical research does show it can lower blood glucose, that doesn't mean it's proven effective as a diabetes treatment or supplement.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
White mulberry leaf powder is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth. The most common side effects are bloating and flatulence — reported in about half of study participants at a dose of 4.6 grams three times daily — along with loose stools in about a quarter and constipation in about a fifth.
The good news is that these digestive effects often improved over time as people continued taking it. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data on medicinal amounts of white mulberry leaf.
The safety data advises against using it in concentrated supplement form during these times. If you're pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your antidiabetes medications (Moderate interaction) before adding this product — white mulberry leaf can lower blood sugar and raise the risk of hypoglycemia. Also verify any OCT2 substrate drugs you take (Moderate interaction), especially metformin — this extract may slow their elimination and increase their side effects.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
White Mulberry Extract is worth considering if you're interested in its traditional uses, but know that the clinical evidence doesn't yet support it for any specific condition. If you take diabetes medications or any prescription drugs, check them against our interaction tool first — this extract can affect how your body processes certain medications.

HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
White Mulberry Extract by BulkSupplements.com contains one active ingredient — white mulberry leaf extract — that has documented interactions with medications.
The main concern is with antidiabetes drugs (Moderate severity). White mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels, which means it may increase the risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) if you're already taking diabetes medications.
You'll need to monitor your blood sugar closely if you combine them.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
A second interaction involves OCT2 substrates (Moderate severity) — a group of medications processed through a specific kidney transporter. Animal research shows white mulberry leaf may slow how your kidneys clear these drugs, potentially raising their levels and side effects.
Metformin, a common diabetes medication, is an OCT2 substrate and was studied in this context.
Altogether, these interactions span 86 individual medications. Use the medication checker on this page to look up your exact prescriptions before starting this supplement.

White Mulberry Leaf Extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely.
Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates
Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.
