Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.

Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
Not assessable

This is a single-ingredient White Mulberry product and its label doesn't state a use — see White Mulberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • We looked at the product name, claims, and label statements and couldn't find a stated purpose to grade.

The evidence for white mulberry leaf isn't well established in our data. The facts show insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for androgenic alopecia (hair loss), osteoporosis, common cold, diabetes, and high cholesterol.

While research does show that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels in the body, the supplement hasn't been proven effective for any specific condition we have ratings for.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

White mulberry leaf is generally well tolerated when taken by mouth, though it does carry some cautions. In clinical studies, digestive side effects appeared in a meaningful number of participants — bloating and gas in about half, loose stools in a quarter, and constipation in about one in five — though these effects tended to ease as people continued taking it over several weeks.

The concentrated supplement form is less studied than whole mulberry leaf as a food. Because concentrated supplements can lower blood sugar, use caution if you're susceptible to low blood sugar.

The safety data isn't adequate for pregnancy or breastfeeding — there isn't enough information to know whether medicinal amounts are safe, so talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — White Mulberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 87 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check your medications against these categories before starting: antidiabetes drugs (insulin, metformin, sulfonylureas, and others) because of risk of low blood sugar, and OCT2 substrates like metformin because white mulberry may slow their elimination and raise their levels.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

White mulberry leaf might appeal to you if you're exploring natural approaches to blood sugar or cholesterol, but the evidence for it hasn't been proven yet. Be careful if you take diabetes medications or certain kidney-clearing drugs like metformin — the interactions are real and worth checking first.

Talk to your pharmacist before adding this to your routine, especially if you're pregnant, nursing, or on any prescriptions.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.

White Mulberry Leaf Extract 1000 mg by BioGanix: Common Questions

Does White Mulberry Leaf Extract 1000 mg by BioGanix interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, White Mulberry Leaf Extract 1000 mg has a known interaction with 87 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
White Mulberry Leaf Extract 1000 mg contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this help with my blood sugar or diabetes?
White mulberry leaf does lower blood glucose levels in the body, but we don't have reliable evidence that it actually works as a treatment for diabetes. If you do take it alongside diabetes medication, you'll need to monitor your blood sugar closely because the combination could cause it to drop too far.
What side effects should I expect?
Most people tolerate it well, but digestive issues are common — bloating, gas, loose stools, or constipation. The good news is that these effects often ease after a few weeks as your body adjusts.
Is it safe to take while I'm pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety data for medicinal amounts during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether this supplement is right for you in either situation.
Why does this interact with so many drugs?
Metformin is just one of many medications that use the same kidney transporter to leave your body, and white mulberry leaf slows that process down. The antidiabetes interactions also stem from the leaf's own blood-sugar-lowering effect, which adds to what your medication is already doing.
