What’s inside
Full disclosure
White Mulberry by TerraVita contains one active ingredient: White Mulberry Leaf Glycerite Liquid Extract, a concentrated liquid form of white mulberry leaf. Glycerin is included as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
The data we hold shows insufficient evidence to rate white mulberry leaf for androgenic alopecia (hair loss), osteoporosis, common cold, diabetes, or high cholesterol. Evidence simply hasn't been established yet for these uses in our files.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
White mulberry leaf as a food is generally well tolerated, but concentrated supplements are less studied and can lower blood sugar — that's something to keep in mind. In clinical trials, the most common side effects were bloating and flatulence (about half of participants), loose stools (a quarter), and constipation (one in five).
The good news is these tend to ease up over time. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, there isn't enough safety data on medicinal amounts, so they should be avoided.
Talk with your doctor or pharmacist about whether it's right for you if you're pregnant or nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this, run a check on any antidiabetes medications you're on — white mulberry can lower blood sugar and increase the risk of it dropping too low. Also check any drugs that are OCT2 substrates, including metformin, as the supplement may slow how your body clears them.
Use the search tool on this page with your exact medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
White Mulberry might appeal to you if you're looking for a traditional herbal supplement, but it's not proven effective for the conditions in our data. If you take antidiabetes drugs or medications cleared by your kidneys, you need to check with us first — this supplement can affect how your body handles them.

White Mulberry Leaf Glycerite Liquid Extract
Antidiabetes Drugs
Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely.
Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates
Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.
