Every active ingredient lists its own amount on the label.

Why this rating?
  • The label discloses an exact amount for 1 of its 1 active ingredient.
  • No proprietary blends here — you can verify the dose of every single component.

This product contains one active ingredient: white mulberry leaf. There are no other ingredients listed.

No specific claim
Evidence for Intended Use · database check
By FDA rules, dietary supplements can’t claim to treat, cure, or prevent disease — so labels speak in careful marketing language. We discern each product’s intended use from its name, label claims, and label statements, then grade the clinical evidence for that use. How these ratings are computed
General wellness

This White Mulberry product is marketed for general wellness, not a specific health condition, so there's no single claim to grade — see White Mulberry's own graded uses on its monograph.

Why this rating?
  • The label markets general wellness (“supports overall health”), not a specific health condition, so there is no single claim to grade against clinical-evidence data.

The evidence for white mulberry leaf is limited. We don't have reliable data to rate its effectiveness for conditions like hair loss, bone health, the common cold, diabetes control, or cholesterol levels.

If you're considering it for one of these uses, the science isn't established in the data we hold.

How safe is it?

Well-documented data
Safety Information · database check
Well characterized

Adverse-effect, pregnancy, and general safety data are on file for most of these ingredients.

Why this rating?
  • We hold adverse-effect (side-effect) data for 1 of the 1 matched ingredient.
  • Pregnancy & breastfeeding safety ratings cover 1 of 1.
  • General safety write-ups exist for 1 of 1.
  • Remember: this measures how much safety information exists. Thin data is not the same as being safe.

White mulberry leaf is generally well tolerated when used as food, though concentrated supplements are less studied and can lower your blood sugar. In one clinical study, about half of participants taking 4.6 grams three times daily reported bloating and flatulence, a quarter had loose stools, and one-fifth had constipation — but these effects often lessened over time.

The safety data during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not strong enough; medicinal amounts are advised against during both. Because this product can affect blood sugar and how your kidneys clear certain drugs, talk with your pharmacist or doctor before starting, especially if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or managing diabetes.

The most serious documented interaction for these ingredients is Moderate. Check your medications for a personalized result.

Why this rating?
  • 1 of the 1 matched ingredient can interact with medications — White Mulberry.
  • The most serious interaction on file is rated Moderate.
  • Some involve high-stakes drug classes: diabetes medications.
  • For scale: 87 individual medications appear in the full list. A big number alone doesn't make a product dangerous — what matters is whether YOUR medication is on it, so run yours through the interaction checker on this page.

Check with your pharmacist before starting if you take diabetes drugs (antidiabetes medications) — white mulberry leaf can lower blood sugar and raise the risk of hypoglycemia. Also check if you take OCT2 substrates, a group of kidney-transport drugs that includes metformin; white mulberry leaf may slow how your body clears them.

The bottom line

Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula marketed for general wellness rather than one specific gradeable purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.

White Mulberry Tea may appeal to you if you're interested in traditional plant products, but the evidence for specific health benefits isn't established here. If you take diabetes medications or kidney-transport drugs like metformin, you need to check your exact medications with your pharmacist first — the interactions are real and worth verifying.

Antidiabetes Drugs

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might increase the risk of hypoglycemia when taken with antidiabetes drugs.
Clinical research shows that white mulberry leaf can lower blood glucose levels. Advise patients to monitor glucose levels closely.

Likelihood Possible Evidence D
Organic Cation Transporter 2 (Oct2) Substrates

Theoretically, white mulberry leaf might slow the elimination and increase the adverse effects of drugs which are OCT2 substrates.
Animal research shows that coadministration of white mulberry leaf extract with metformin, an OCT2 substrate, slows the renal elimination of metformin via inhibition of OCT2 activity. OCT2 is expressed in the kidneys and is responsible for transporting cationic drugs into tubular epithelial cells in order to be excreted in the urine.

White Mulberry Tea by Genesis Today: Common Questions

Does White Mulberry Tea by Genesis Today interact with any medications?
Yes. Based on its ingredients, White Mulberry Tea has a known interaction with 87 medications. Use the checker to see how it interacts with a specific drug.
How can one product interact with so many drugs?
White Mulberry Tea contains a single active ingredient, and that one ingredient can interact with many different medications on its own. We check it against each medication and show the mechanism responsible.
Where does this information come from?
The product label data comes from the NIH Dietary Supplement Label Database (DSLD); the interaction data is built on the Natural Medicines database and reviewed by HelloPharmacist pharmacists.
Will this product interfere with my diabetes medication?
Yes, you should be cautious. White mulberry leaf can lower blood sugar on its own, so combined with diabetes drugs it raises your risk of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Check your exact medications with the tool on this page, and talk with your pharmacist about monitoring your glucose levels closely if you decide to use it.
What side effects should I expect?
White mulberry leaf is generally well tolerated, but some people report bloating, flatulence, loose stools, or constipation — especially when first starting. The good news is these digestive effects often get better or go away over the first few weeks.
Is this safe to take while pregnant or breastfeeding?
There isn't enough safety data to recommend medicinal amounts during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor about whether this product is right for you in those situations.
Does white mulberry leaf actually work for diabetes?
The evidence isn't strong enough to rate its effectiveness. While some research shows it can lower blood sugar, we don't have reliable data to say it's truly effective for managing diabetes.
Will this interact with metformin?
Yes — animal research shows white mulberry leaf may slow your body's clearance of metformin, which is a kidney-transport drug. Your pharmacist can help you figure out if the risk is worth it for your situation.
