This product contains one active ingredient: Black Cherry Bark Extract. There are no other inactive ingredients listed.
Does it work?
Couldn't assess
We don't have effectiveness data on file for this product. If you're considering it for a specific purpose — such as cough relief — talk with your pharmacist about what the evidence shows for wild cherry and whether it's the right choice for you.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Wild cherry is generally considered safe in the small amounts found in commercial cough products, but the plant contains compounds that can break down into cyanide, especially in large doses. Taking large amounts orally can lead to cyanide poisoning, which can be life-threatening; a documented case involved a woman who became severely ill and briefly comatose after consuming about 300 grams of wild cherries steeped in alcohol.
Wild cherry is rated Likely Unsafe in pregnancy and should be avoided. There isn't enough safety information to recommend it while breastfeeding — talk with your doctor or pharmacist before use if you're nursing.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Wild Cherry Bark, check with your doctor or pharmacist if you take any medications broken down by the liver enzyme CYP3A4 — a Moderate severity concern. This includes a very wide range of drugs: cholesterol medications, antifungals, immunosuppressants, and many others.
Use the interaction checker on this page to confirm your exact medications.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no assessable stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Wild Cherry Bark is generally well tolerated in small amounts, but it may slow how your body clears certain medications. The main concern is that it could raise levels of drugs broken down by the liver enzyme CYP3A4 — though this hasn't been confirmed in humans yet.
Pregnant women should avoid it, and it's not recommended while breastfeeding. Check your medications with your doctor or pharmacist before starting, and avoid large doses because of the risk of cyanide toxicity.

Black Cherry Bark Extract
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
In vitro research suggests that wild cherry can inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) enzymes. Theoretically, wild cherry might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4. However, so far, this interaction has not been reported in humans.
Some drugs metabolized by CYP3A4 include lovastatin (Mevacor), ketoconazole (Nizoral), itraconazole (Sporanox), fexofenadine (Allegra), triazolam (Halcion), and others.
