Wild Hops Ingredients & Drug Interactions
by Herbal Terra
What is this page for?
First and foremost: checking Wild Hops against your medications. The heart of this page is the interaction checker and the full interaction report — how this product’s ingredients may interact with prescription and over-the-counter medicines you may be taking.
Around that, we add a pharmacist’s high-level view of the product as a whole — what’s inside, the evidence for its stated use, how transparent the label is, and what safety data exists — so you can see the full picture in one place. It’s educational information from our licensed clinical databases and the clinical staff at HelloPharmacist — not medical advice — and we don’t sell or endorse products. Our editorial policy

Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Full disclosure
Wild Hops contains a single active ingredient: a dried root liquid extract of Moghania fruticulosa (wild hops). The product also contains menstruum as an inactive ingredient — a liquid carrier used to deliver the extract.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence we hold does not establish that hops works for the conditions listed — age-related cognitive decline, sexual dysfunction, anxiety, ADHD, dyspepsia (indigestion), or insomnia all carry a rating of insufficient reliable evidence to rate. That means the research to date hasn't been robust enough to confirm benefit for any of these uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Hops is generally well tolerated in the short term but may cause drowsiness — avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how it affects you. Long-term safety hasn't been well studied.
There isn't enough safety data to recommend this product during pregnancy or while breastfeeding; talk with your doctor or pharmacist for personalized advice if you're in either situation. Occupational exposure to hops dust is linked to chronic respiratory symptoms like dry cough and bronchitis, though oral supplement use at typical doses carries a different risk profile.
Allergic reactions and contact dermatitis have been reported with fresh hops plant and pollen.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before taking Wild Hops, check your exact medications against the interaction tool on this page if you take sedative drugs (sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medications, or other CNS depressants), estrogens (including hormone replacement therapy), or any drug metabolized by CYP3A4 or CYP1A2 enzymes — your pharmacist can tell you if yours fall into that last group.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Wild Hops carries interaction risks with sedative medications and estrogen-based therapies (Moderate severity) and may affect how your body processes certain other drugs. If you're on any prescription medications — especially sleep aids, anti-anxiety drugs, or hormone replacement — check them against this product before you start.
Not enough evidence supports its use for the listed conditions. Talk to your pharmacist about whether it's right for you.

Wild Hops by Herbal Terra Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Wild Hops by Herbal Terra is a single-ingredient liquid extract with documented interactions across a substantial range of medications.
The most serious concern is with sedative drugs (CNS depressants) — animal research suggests hops has sedative effects, so combining it with sleeping pills, anti-anxiety medications, or other sedating drugs could cause additive drowsiness. Severity here is Moderate.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Estrogens (including hormone replacement therapy) carry a Moderate interaction risk as well. In vitro studies show that certain hops compounds can bind to estrogen receptors, potentially competing with and reducing the effect of hormone replacement.
Most hops extracts contain very small amounts of these compounds, but the theoretical risk remains with larger doses.
Two additional drug metabolizer interactions are documented as Minor: hops may theoretically alter how your body breaks down CYP3A4 substrates (a large family of drugs), and it may affect CYP1A2 substrates — though human studies suggest the real-world impact is likely minimal. Altogether, these interactions span 853 individual medications.

Wild Hops (Moghania fruticulosa) dried root liquid extract
Cns Depressants
Theoretically, concomitant use of hops with sedative drugs might cause additive sedation.
Some animal research shows that hops has sedative effects.
Estrogens
Theoretically, concomitant use of large amounts of hops might interfere with hormone replacement therapy due to competition for estrogen receptors.
In vitro research suggests that certain hops constituents can competitively bind to estrogen receptors. However, most hops extracts contain very small amounts of these constituents.
Cytochrome P450 1A2 (Cyp1A2) Substrates
Hops extract does not seem to affect the metabolism of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research suggests that flavonoid constituents of hops inhibit CYP1A2 enzyme activity. However, a pharmacokinetic study in healthy postmenopausal patients shows that taking a standardized extract of spent hops containing prenylated phenols, as 59.5 mg twice daily for 2 weeks, does not affect levels of caffeine, a CYP1A2 probe substrate.
Cytochrome P450 3A4 (Cyp3A4) Substrates
Theoretically, hops extract might alter metabolism of CYP3A4 substrates; however, this effect may not be clinically significant.
Animal research suggests that specific constituents of hops, called lupulones, can induce hepatic CYP3A4 enzyme activity. However, a pharmacokinetic study in healthy postmenopausal patients with normal metabolism shows that taking a standardized extract of spent hops containing prenylated phenols, as 59.5 mg twice daily for 2 weeks, decreases the concentration of alprazolam, a CYP3A4 probe substrate, by 7.6%. This reduction is unlikely to be clinically relevant.
