What’s inside
Full disclosure
This product contains one active ingredient: wormwood flowering aerial parts extract from fresh, undried plant material. The liquid form also includes cane alcohol as an inactive ingredient.
Does it work?
Not established
The evidence for wormwood isn't established in our data. It's been studied for biliary disorders, Crohn disease, depression, dyspepsia (indigestion), and osteoarthritis, but we hold insufficient reliable evidence to rate it for any of these uses.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Wormwood is not straightforward to use safely. While short-term use of properly prepared products may be acceptable, thujone — a neurotoxin in wormwood — can be toxic at higher amounts.
Common side effects from wormwood oil include nausea, vomiting, and diffuse muscle aches. Rare but serious effects include acute kidney damage, rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown), and seizures.
Chronic use has been linked to absinthism (a condition from high-dose wormwood exposure characterized by tremors, hallucinations, insomnia, and brain damage). The safety data advises against wormwood during pregnancy — it may stimulate the uterus.
There isn't enough safety information to recommend it while breastfeeding; talk with your pharmacist or doctor for personalized advice.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Before you take this, check if you're on anticonvulsant drugs (seizure medications). Wormwood contains thujone, which can trigger seizure activity and may interfere with how these medications work — a moderate-level concern.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFully disclosed formula with no established evidence rating for its marketed use. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
Wormwood is a potent herbal extract with real toxicity concerns, especially with thujone. If you take anticonvulsants, this is off the table — check with your pharmacist first.
Even if you're not on seizure medication, the risk profile here means you'll want to discuss it with your doctor or pharmacist before starting.

Wormwood by Herb Pharm Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Herb Pharm's Wormwood contains one active ingredient — wormwood extract — and it does interact with a medication type you need to know about.
The main concern is anticonvulsant drugs (medications used to prevent or stop seizures). Wormwood contains thujone, a compound that can trigger seizure activity, which may theoretically interfere with how anticonvulsants work.
This is a moderate-level interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Although anticonvulsants are the only drug type with documented interactions in our data, wormwood carries significant safety concerns of its own — especially with short-term dosing. The thujone in this product can be toxic, and even at medicinal doses, it may cause nausea, vomiting, and muscle aches.
In rare cases, serious effects like kidney damage and seizures have been reported. Altogether, these interactions span 50 individual medications.
If you take any anticonvulsant or any other prescription medication, run it through the checker below before adding this supplement.
