Here's the concern with pairing wormwood and clonazepam. Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine you may be taking to calm down seizure activity or panic attacks. Wormwood contains a compound called thujone, which in larger amounts can actually do the opposite and make the brain more prone to seizures. So in theory, wormwood could work against what your clonazepam is trying to do, and that could mean less seizure control.

I want to be honest about the evidence here: this comes from lab and animal studies, not from people, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. Tiny culinary or flavoring amounts are unlikely to matter much, but concentrated supplements are a different story. If you rely on clonazepam for seizures, please run any wormwood product past your pharmacist or doctor first.

Wormwood is a very bitter herb traditionally used to stimulate appetite and ease digestion, and it has early research interest in Crohn's disease. It contains thujone, which can be toxic in large amounts, so it should only be used short-term in controlled doses. What Is Clonazepam Used For?

Brand names: Klonopin, Rivotril, Ceberclon

Clonazepam is approved to treat several types of seizures — including Lennox-Gastaut syndrome (a severe form of epilepsy), akinetic seizures (sudden loss of muscle tone), myoclonic seizures (sudden muscle jerks), and absence seizures (brief lapses of awareness) in patients who haven't responded to other medicines.

It is also approved for panic disorder, with or without agoraphobia (fear of situations that might cause panic). Panic disorder involves repeated, unexpected panic attacks along with ongoing worry about having more attacks.
