Mephobarbital (Mebaral) is an older barbiturate that calms electrical activity in the brain, which is why it's used to help control seizures. Wormwood contains a compound called thujone, and here's the catch: thujone can actually do the opposite, nudging the brain toward seizures. So the worry is that wormwood could work against your medicine and make seizures more likely to break through, even if your dose hasn't changed.

I want to be honest about the evidence here. This concern comes from lab and animal studies, not from real patient cases, so it's more theoretical than proven. Still, when seizure control is the goal, I'd rather play it safe. Tiny culinary amounts are less of a concern than concentrated wormwood supplements. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding it.
