Here's the simple version: you're taking Vigabatrin (Sabril) to keep seizures under control, and that's its whole job, to calm down overactive electrical activity in the brain. Wormwood contains a compound called thujone, which can do the opposite and actually nudge the brain toward seizures. So in theory, wormwood could work against your medication and make a seizure more likely to slip through.

I want to be honest about the strength of this concern. It comes from lab and animal studies, not from real people taking these together, so it's more of a caution than a proven problem. Still, with seizure control there's little room for risk. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before trying wormwood, and don't change your Vigabatrin on your own.

Wormwood is a very bitter herb traditionally used to stimulate appetite and ease digestion, and it has early research interest in Crohn's disease. It contains thujone, which can be toxic in large amounts, so it should only be used short-term in controlled doses. About Vigabatrin

What Is Vigabatrin Used For?

Brand name: Sabril

Vigabatrin is used to treat two types of seizure conditions. For refractory complex partial seizures (seizures that have not responded well to other treatments), vigabatrin oral solution and tablets are used as an add-on therapy in patients 2 years of age and older — it is not a first-line treatment. Sabril, Vigadrone, and vigabatrin-branded products carry this indication.

For infantile spasms — a specific type of seizure disorder in very young children — vigabatrin oral solution is used as a standalone (monotherapy) treatment in infants 1 month to 2 years of age. Vigafyde oral solution is indicated specifically for infantile spasms monotherapy in this same age group. In all cases, treatment is only appropriate when the potential benefits outweigh the risk of permanent vision loss.
