Here's the concern with pairing wormwood and Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil). Wormwood contains a compound called thujone, which in larger amounts can actually trigger seizures. Since Horizant is often prescribed to help prevent seizures (and also treats restless legs and nerve pain), adding something that may lower your seizure threshold could work against what your medication is trying to do. In plain terms, the worry is that wormwood might chip away at the protection your medicine provides.

I want to be honest about the evidence though: this is mostly theoretical, based on lab and animal findings, not solid human studies. Small culinary or flavoring amounts are far less likely to matter than concentrated supplement doses taken regularly. Still, if you're on Horizant, especially for seizures, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding wormwood.

About Gabapentin

What Is Gabapentin Used For?

Brand name: Horizant

Gabapentin (brands include Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, Gralise, and Horizant) is primarily used to manage postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) — the nerve pain that lingers after a shingles outbreak — in adults. Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, and gabapentin capsules, tablets, and oral solution are also used as add-on therapy for partial onset seizures (a type of epilepsy) in adults and children aged 3 and older.

Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil extended-release tablet) has two specific approvals: treatment of moderate-to-severe primary restless legs syndrome (RLS) in adults, and management of postherpetic neuralgia in adults. Horizant is not recommended for people who need to sleep during the day and stay awake at night. Gralise is approved only for postherpetic neuralgia and cannot be substituted for other gabapentin products due to its different release profile.
