HelloPharmacist Scorecard of Yarrow Pom by doTERRA
Our pharmacy team’s full take, with four database checks built into the cards below — a summary of what is known, not a grade of the product itself.
What’s inside
Low disclosure
Yarrow Pom contains 2 active ingredients: a Yarrow and Pomegranate blend, plus pomegranate seed oil. Pomegranate seed oil is the concentrated extract from pomegranate seeds, while the yarrow component includes yarrow oil.
There are no inactive fillers listed for this product.
Does it work?
Moderate evidence
For pomegranate, the data shows it's possibly effective for high blood pressure — some research suggests it can modestly lower blood pressure. However, for cholesterol (hyperlipidemia) and blood sugar control (diabetes), the evidence leans toward possibly ineffective.
For fatty liver disease, there isn't enough reliable evidence to say either way. Yarrow's effectiveness is less clear — the data we hold shows insufficient reliable evidence for tonsillitis, wound healing, eczema, period pain, and yeast infections.
You'd want to talk with your pharmacist or doctor about what you're hoping this product will do for you.
How safe is it?
Well-documented data
Pomegranate fruit and juice are generally well tolerated in normal food amounts. The fruit extract and seed oil seem well tolerated too, though concentrated extracts warrant caution because of limited safety data.
The most common side effects from oral pomegranate are mild — diarrhea and flatulence — occurring in a small number of people who took high-dose extract. Yarrow, taken by mouth or applied vaginally, seems well tolerated, but it can cause allergic skin reactions topically (dermatitis or hives) due to its natural oils.
Human safety data for yarrow are limited. Yarrow is traditionally avoided in pregnancy because it may affect the uterus, and there isn't enough information to recommend it while breastfeeding.
Meds to double-check
Moderate interaction found
Check your medications before you start, especially if you take: blood pressure medications (antihypertensives or ACE inhibitors), blood thinners like warfarin, cholesterol drugs like rosuvastatin, antidepressants or other drugs metabolized by CYP2D6, lithium, anti-seizure medications like carbamazepine, or any drug processed by the liver enzymes CYP2C9 or CYP3A4. These are the drug types documented to interact with pomegranate and yarrow.
The bottom line
Scorecard at a glanceFormula with limited ingredient disclosure with some supporting evidence for its stated purpose. Moderate medication interactions have been identified, and safety information is well characterized.
This product may help with blood pressure, but it interacts with many common medications. If you take blood pressure drugs, blood thinners, cholesterol medications, antidepressants, anti-seizure drugs, or lithium, check with your pharmacist before starting.
Pomegranate and yarrow are generally well tolerated in small amounts, but talk to your pharmacist if you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking any prescription medications.

Yarrow | Pom Active Botanical Nutritive Duo monograph & interactionsYarrow Pom by doTERRA Drug Interactions
HelloPharmacist Interaction Report
Yarrow Pom by doTERRA contains pomegranate seed oil and yarrow oil, and these two ingredients do interact with medications.
Pomegranate is the main concern here — it can theoretically increase the blood pressure-lowering effect of antihypertensive drugs (the medications used to treat high blood pressure), which could lead to excessively low blood pressure. This is a Moderate-severity interaction.
Read the full breakdown — every affected drug type, severity by severity
Pomegranate also interacts with several other drug types at Moderate severity: it may increase levels of drugs broken down by the liver enzyme CYP2D6, potentially raising their effects; it has ACE inhibitor-like properties and could amplify the effects of ACE inhibitors (a class of blood pressure medication); it may increase warfarin (a blood thinner) levels and bleeding risk; and it could increase the risk of adverse effects from rosuvastatin (a cholesterol drug). At Minor severity, pomegranate may affect drugs metabolized by the liver enzymes CYP2C9 and CYP3A4, and theoretically increase carbamazepine (an anti-seizure medication) levels, though clinical significance is unclear.
Yarrow oil carries a separate Moderate-severity interaction with lithium — it may increase lithium levels and side effects through its diuretic (water-removing) properties. Altogether, these interactions span 912 individual medications.
Before you start this product, use the medication checker below to look up your exact prescriptions — especially blood pressure medications, blood thinners, cholesterol drugs, antidepressants, anti-seizure medications, and lithium.
