Zymelac has one active ingredient: lactase, an enzyme that your small intestine naturally produces to digest lactose (the sugar in milk and dairy). If your body doesn't make enough lactase—or stops making it as you age—this supplement fills that gap.
The softgel also contains inactive ingredients including soybean oil, gelatin, glycerin, beeswax, soy lecithin, and sorbitol.

Lactase is effective for lactose intolerance—the bloating, cramping, and digestive upset that happens when you can't break down dairy sugar. The evidence for its use in prematurity or colic is too limited to rate reliably.

In rare cases, occupational exposure to lactase powder has caused allergic reactions like contact dermatitis and nasal or eye allergy symptoms, though this is uncommon with oral supplements. Formulation
Lactase is an enzyme necessary to digest the milk sugar, lactose. The activity of this enzyme may decline after childhood, and difficulty in digesting dairy products may develop. Symptoms of lactase deficiency after eating dairy products include gas, bloating, intestinal discomfort, cramps and/or diarrhea. The addition of formula 880 lactase enzyme supplement to the diet when consuming dairy products or taking medicines or vitamins containing lactose can relieve the discomforts of simple lactase deficiency.
