Concomitant use of drugs that interfere with common renal tubular transport systems involved in the renal elimination of metFORMIN eg, organic cationic transporter-2 (OCT 2)/ multidrug and toxin extrusion (MATE) inhibitors such as vandetanib may result in increased metFORMIN exposure and may increase the risk for lactic acidosis1. During a drug interaction study in health volunteers, coadministration of metFORMIN and vandetanib resulted in an increase in metFORMIN AUC and Cmax. Therefore, if coadministration is required, use caution and monitor patient for metFORMIN toxicity 3. Consider the benefits and risks of concomitant use 2.
