Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
STIMULANT DRUGS
Why this applies to Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine
Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine falls under STIMULANT DRUGS — the group 1,4-dmaa interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing to know about this combination. Your medicine contains phenylephrine, which is itself a stimulant-type decongestant that tightens blood vessels to clear a stuffy nose. DMAA works in a similar direction, acting like adrenaline to narrow vessels and rev things up. Stacking two stimulants together can pile on the same effects, so you may notice a faster or pounding heartbeat, higher blood pressure, jitteriness, or trouble sleeping. The chlorpheniramine part is an antihistamine and isn't the concern here.
To be fair, this warning is theoretical, based mostly on how these ingredients behave rather than big human studies. Still, since the FDA considers DMAA unsafe, I'd steer clear of it entirely and check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything.
- Cohen PA, Travis JC, Keizers PHJ, Deuster P, Venhuis BJ. Four experimental stimulants found in sports and weight loss supplements: 2-amino-6-methylheptane (octodrine), 1,4-dimethylamylamine (1,4-DMAA), 1,3-dimethylamylamine (1,3-DMAA) and 1,3-dimethylbuty

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Chlorpheniramine, Phenylephrine page
“A medicine that stimulates the heart and dries the body doesn't leave much room for supplements pulling the same way, and that describes chlorpheniramine, phenylephrine (Histatab Plus, Ed A Hist, Rynatan) well. Dozens of stimulant herbs, everyday caffeine sources among them, add to the decongestant's strain on blood pressure and heart…”
