Lumateperone falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme by 37%.

Here's the gist with Caplyta (lumateperone): your liver uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to clear it out of your system. Some Acacia rigidula products have been found to contain a hidden stimulant called BMPEA, and lab testing suggests BMPEA can slow that same enzyme down by about a third. If that happened in your body, lumateperone could build up a bit higher than expected, which might mean more drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, or feeling unsteady.

I want to be honest that this is theoretical, based only on test-tube work, not real patient data. The bigger worry, frankly, is that these products often contain an unapproved stimulant at all. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

What Is Lumateperone Used For?

Brand name: Caplyta

Caplyta (lumateperone) is approved for adults with schizophrenia, depressive episodes associated with bipolar I or II disorder (bipolar depression), and as an add-on treatment for major depressive disorder (MDD).

For bipolar depression, Caplyta can be used on its own or alongside lithium or valproate. For MDD, Caplyta is used together with an antidepressant — not on its own as a standalone antidepressant.
