Mexiletine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, strongly inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme.

Here's the concern with combining Mexiletine and Acacia rigidula. Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP2D6 to break down and clear mexiletine. Some Acacia rigidula products have been found tainted with a stimulant called BMPEA, and lab studies suggest BMPEA can block that very enzyme. If it does, mexiletine could be cleared more slowly and build up in your blood.

Higher mexiletine levels can mean more side effects like nausea, dizziness, tremor, blurred vision, or, more seriously, worsening heart rhythm problems. Since mexiletine is a narrow-margin heart drug, even modest changes matter. That said, this is theoretical and based only on lab testing, not people. Acacia rigidula has real safety questions on its own, so please check with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

About Mexiletine

What Is Mexiletine Used For?

Brand name: Mexitil

Mexiletine Hydrochloride capsules are indicated for the treatment of documented, life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias — for example, sustained ventricular tachycardia (a dangerously fast heart rhythm originating in the lower chambers). Because mexiletine itself can trigger arrhythmias, it is not recommended for minor or symptom-free irregular heartbeats.

Treatment is started in a hospital setting so heart rhythm can be monitored closely. Antiarrhythmic drugs, including mexiletine, have not been shown to improve overall survival in patients with ventricular arrhythmias.
