Why this applies to Oliceridine

Oliceridine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, strongly inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme.

Here's the concern with Acacia rigidula and oliceridine (Olinvyk). Some Acacia products have been found spiked with a hidden stimulant called BMPEA, and lab studies show BMPEA can block a liver enzyme called CYP2D6. Oliceridine is an opioid painkiller that your body partly clears using that same enzyme. If the enzyme gets slowed down, oliceridine could build up higher than expected.

For an opioid, that can mean stronger drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, and in a worst case, slowed breathing. I want to be honest though: this is theoretical, based only on lab work, not real patient cases. Since oliceridine is given in monitored settings anyway, just make sure your care team knows about any supplement you use before starting.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme by 37%.

Here's the gist of it. Oliceridine (Olinvyk) is an IV opioid painkiller that your body partly clears using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some Acacia rigidula products have been found spiked with a stimulant called BMPEA, and lab studies suggest BMPEA can slow that same enzyme down by about a third. If the enzyme works slower, oliceridine could hang around longer than expected.

For an opioid, that potentially means stronger effects like deep drowsiness, confusion, and most importantly slowed breathing. That said, this is only theoretical and based on test-tube data, not real people. Oliceridine is also given in a hospital setting where staff watch you closely. Still, please tell your care team about any supplement you take so they can keep you safe.

What Is Oliceridine Injection Used For?

Brand name: Olinvyk

Olinvyk (oliceridine) injection is approved for adults to manage acute pain that is severe enough to require an intravenous opioid analgesic. It is used only when alternative treatments are ineffective, not tolerated, or otherwise unable to provide adequate pain control.

Because of serious risks including addiction, misuse, overdose, and death, Olinvyk is reserved for situations where other pain management options are not sufficient. It is not intended for routine or chronic pain management.
