Thioridazine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2D6 (CYP2D6) SUBSTRATES — the group Acacia Rigidula interacts with.

Theoretically, Acacia rigidula products that are adulterated with beta-methylphenylethylamine (BMPEA) might increase the levels of CYP2D6 substrates.
In vitro research shows that BMPEA, an adulterant found in many Acacia rigidula products, strongly inhibits CYP2D6 enzyme.

Here's the concern with this pairing. Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2D6 to clear thioridazine out of your system. Some Acacia rigidula products are spiked with a stimulant called BMPEA, and lab studies suggest BMPEA can block CYP2D6. If that enzyme is slowed down, thioridazine could build up to higher levels than intended.

That matters because thioridazine is a sensitive drug when it comes to the heart. Higher levels can lengthen the QT interval and raise the risk of dangerous heart rhythm problems, plus more sedation, dizziness, dry mouth, or low blood pressure. This is still theoretical, based on lab data, not real people. But given thioridazine's heart risks, please don't combine these without checking with your doctor or pharmacist first.

What Is Thioridazine Used For?

Brand name: Mellaril

Thioridazine Hydrochloride tablets are used for the management of schizophrenia — but only in patients who have already tried at least two other antipsychotic medications without adequate results, either because those drugs didn't work well enough or caused intolerable side effects.

Because thioridazine carries serious heart-rhythm risks, it is considered a last-resort option for schizophrenia, not a first-line treatment. It is not approved for dementia-related psychosis or any other psychiatric condition.
