Clemastine falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Algin interacts with.

Theoretically, algin can alter the absorption of oral drugs. Laboratory research shows that algin, when consumed as part of the diet or used as a thickening agent in infant formula, reduces the absorption of certain minerals. Also, algin has been used as a tablet binder and disintegrant to enhance drug bioavailability. To avoid changes in absorption, take algin 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the gist with clemastine (Tavist Allergy) and algin from seaweed. Algin is a soluble fiber that swells into a thick gel in your stomach. The theory is that this gel could grab onto a swallowed allergy tablet and slow or slightly lower how much clemastine your body soaks up. If that happened, you might get a little less relief from your sneezing, runny nose, or itchy eyes.

Honestly, this is a theoretical, minor concern based on lab work, not real patient reports, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. A simple fix is timing: take your clemastine first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before using an algin product like a heartburn raft. What Is Clemastine Used For?

Brand name: Tavist Allergy

Clemastine treats symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever and similar nasal allergies) — including sneezing, runny nose, itching, and watery eyes. The oral solution (Clemastine Fumarate syrup) is indicated for adults and children aged 6 through 12 years. The tablets (Clemastine Fumarate and Clemsza) are indicated for adults.

Clemastine also treats mild, uncomplicated allergic skin reactions — specifically urticaria (hives) and angioedema (swelling under the skin) — at the appropriate dosage level, in both the oral solution and tablet forms.
