Infigratinib falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Algin interacts with.

Theoretically, algin can alter the absorption of oral drugs. Laboratory research shows that algin, when consumed as part of the diet or used as a thickening agent in infant formula, reduces the absorption of certain minerals. Also, algin has been used as a tablet binder and disintegrant to enhance drug bioavailability. To avoid changes in absorption, take algin 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the gist with Truseltiq (infigratinib) and algin. Algin is a seaweed fiber that swells into a thick gel in your stomach. The concern is purely about absorption: that gel could trap some of an oral pill and keep a bit of it from getting into your bloodstream. This is theoretical, based on lab work, not on real patients taking these two together, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

Still, infigratinib is a cancer medicine where getting the right amount matters, and it's taken on an empty stomach with its own timing rules. To stay safe, simple spacing helps: take algin 30 to 60 minutes after your infigratinib. Before adding any algin supplement, run it by your oncology pharmacist or doctor first.

  • Infigratinib is used in adults who have received previous therapy to treat a certain type of cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer) that has spread to nearby tissues or other parts of the body and cannot be removed by surgery. Infigratinib is in a class of medications called kinase inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of the abnormal protein that signals cancer cells to multiply. This helps stop or slow the spread of cancer cells.
