Stiripentol falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Algin interacts with.

Theoretically, algin can alter the absorption of oral drugs. Laboratory research shows that algin, when consumed as part of the diet or used as a thickening agent in infant formula, reduces the absorption of certain minerals. Also, algin has been used as a tablet binder and disintegrant to enhance drug bioavailability. To avoid changes in absorption, take algin 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's the gist with stiripentol (Diacomit) and algin: this is a theoretical concern, not something proven in people. Algin is a seaweed fiber that swells into a thick gel in your stomach. In the lab, that gel can grab onto things you swallow at the same time, which could in theory slow or slightly reduce how much of a pill gets absorbed.

For stiripentol, the worry would be getting a touch less than usual, which matters because it works together with clobazam to keep seizures in check. Honestly, the evidence here is weak and the risk is rated minor. A simple fix is spacing them out: take your stiripentol first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before the algin. Run it by your pharmacist or neurologist to be safe.

Diacomit (stiripentol) is used to treat seizures associated with Dravet syndrome — a severe form of epilepsy that typically begins in infancy. It is approved for patients who are already taking clobazam, are at least 6 months old, and weigh 7 kg or more.

Diacomit is not used alone (as monotherapy) for Dravet syndrome — clinical data only support its use when combined with clobazam.
