Riluzole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES — the group Aloe interacts with.

Theoretically, aloe might decrease the levels and clinical effects of CYP1A2 substrates.
In vitro research shows that aloe extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.

Here's the gist for riluzole. Your body relies mostly on an enzyme called CYP1A2 to break this medicine down. Lab studies hint that aloe, when taken by mouth, may speed that enzyme up a bit. If that happened in real life, your body could clear riluzole a little faster, which might lower its levels and make it work less well for your ALS.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It comes only from test-tube research, not from people, so it may not matter at all in practice. Riluzole isn't a prodrug, so the direction would be toward less effect, not more side effects. Still, before you start oral aloe, check with your pharmacist or doctor.

Aloe vera gel is widely used on the skin for minor burns and irritation, and some research suggests it may help. Aloe latex (the yellow part) is a strong laxative that can cause cramping and is not considered safe for regular use. What Is Riluzole Used For?

Brand names: Rilutek, Tiglutik, Exservan

Riluzole is approved to treat amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) — the progressive neurological disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. This indication is shared across all available riluzole products, including tablets (Rilutek, riluzole), the dissolving oral film (Exservan), and the oral suspension (Tiglutik).

Tiglutik oral suspension is notable in that it can also be given through a PEG-tube (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube) for patients who have difficulty swallowing.
