Here's the gist for Tuzistra XR, which combines codeine and chlorpheniramine. Lab studies (not human studies) hint that American elder might slow down the CYP3A4 enzyme, one of the pathways your body uses to break down these ingredients. If that happened, a bit more of the medicine could linger in your system. With this cough and cold combo, that might mean stronger drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, dry mouth, or slower, shallower breathing.

I want to be honest though: this is theoretical, based only on test-tube work, so the real-world risk is probably small, especially with food amounts of elderberry. Still, since codeine affects breathing, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before pairing them, just to play it safe.
